Introduction

I recently purchased a GeForce GTX 780 Ti and compared its performance to a GeForce GTX 680 on an Intel i7 940 Quad Core CPU. The increase in game performance of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti over the GeForce GTX 680 at high resolutions ranged from 40% to 80%, which was well worth the upgrade. Now I needed to take a hard look at my existing system. Was the i7 940 holding back the performance of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti?

Intel Core i7

It's been over four years since my desktop PC was last upgraded and I ordered a number of components from Newegg for a major upgrade. The CPU for this upgrade consisted of an i7 4820K Ivy Bridge-E running at a frequency of 3.7GHz.

Overall the average increase was 6%, which is decent considering the high resolutions and settings that were used.
