NVIDIA In The News - 11/30/07 @ 6:59 am - By: MikeC - Source: Browsing
A couple of financial articles on NVIDIA have appeared at Yahoo! Finance this week as the company's stock price has risen from $29.50 per share to $33.0. Citi analyst Glen Yeung mentioned that NVIDIA was quietly confident about its outlook during their recent tour of chip companies. NVIDIA specifically pointed to opportunities in workstations and chipsets as well as a market share gain in desktops.

"Evidence of chipset growth or workstation momentum may provide incremental catalyst to move the shares back to the upper end of its trading range," Yeung said.

In another story, Motley Fool provides comments from their savviest investors, which includes humvee5000, who believes that competition between NVIDIA and Intel will heat-up in the future.

ATI can not possibly do as badly as it has done even though Hector is the boss at AMD. Since NVDA has already taken about half the share that ATI had and much of the high end stuff -- there is diminishing ability to take more and the multiples already price in great growth. Also in time Intel is going to be going toe to toe with NVDA and whoever does that loses!

On Windows Vista - 11/29/07 @ 2:26 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Browsing
Stories like this have me thinking that a number of people might skip Microsoft's Windows Vista altogether and wait for their follow-up operating system before abandoning Windows XP.

Vista's first service pack, to be released early next year, is intended to boost the operating system's performance. However, when Vista with the Service Pack 1 (SP1) beta was put through benchmark testing by researchers at Florida-based software development company Devil Mountain Software, the improvement was not overwhelming, leaving the latest Windows iteration outshined by its predecessor.

Microsoft even admits that the world wasn't 100 percent ready for Windows Vista. In this case, the world probably also includes AMD and NVIDIA.

G92 8800 GTS Tested - 11/29/07 @ 8:45 am - By: MikeC - Source: Forums
Tweaktown has gotten hold of a graphics card that uses NVIDIA’s updated GeForce 8800 GTS GPU, which is manufactured using a 65nm fabrication process.

Unlike the 640MB of memory that is equipped with graphics cards using the current 90nm-based GeForce 8800 GTS, the graphics cards tested is outfitted with 512MB of graphics memory.

Early impressions are positive, although they were unable to adequately stress the graphics card by employing the use of antialiasing or testing at the uber-resolution of 2560x1600.

With all that said though, what are our thoughts on the 8800GTS 512MB? Well, quite frankly we love it. It’s a good step up from the 8800GT if you’re venturing into 1920 x 1200 territory, and the card also manages to do better with less noise and heat which is always great.

Feedback here.

Inno3D 8800 GT OC - 11/28/07 @ 6:39 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Andrew Scott has completed his review of Inno3D's GeForce 8800 GT OC graphics card. The graphics card is slightly overclocked from the reference model and delivers the performance to run the latest PC games at high quality settings.

The suspects in this affair are Quake Wars, Jericho, Call of Duty 4, and of course Crysis.

Harsh words for Vista and DX10

DirectX 10 is the new kid on the block and apparently, this guy is not doing so well. Crysis was supposed to have been DirectX 10's flagship intro game, but there is a reason why the DirectX 10 implementation fails in my opinion.

If you have not seen it already around the Internet, users are allowed to make special configuration files to the DirectX 9 portion of the game to "unlock" DirectX 10 visual features without the heavy performance penality. This is simply done by adding a "game.cfg" to the main Crysis folder. So how do the visuals compare on Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT OC?

Gasping For Air - 11/25/07 @ 7:02 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday!

October and November have certainly been memorable with the number of quality titles that were released for the PC. The GeForce 8800 GT debuted at the perfect time and hopefully supply will begin to increase as demand for graphics cards based on NVIDIA's newest mid-range GPU has been heavy.

This weekend was filled with non-stop gaming sessions as I had an opportunity to partake in Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Hellgate London, The Witcher, and Unreal Tournament 3. Unfortunately, I began with The Witcher, which has consumed most of my time and made quite an impression. Fellow gamers have also been impressed by The Witcher as it has received a number of votes in our Favorite Single Player Game of 2007 feedback thread.

NVIDIA's add-in partners are extremely excited about the GeForce 8800 GT as we are currently reviewing products from EVGA, Inno3D, and XFX. Each graphics card is being reviewed by a different reviewer and I am looking forward to their articles. Before sending along XFX's Alpha Dog Edition to Jonathan Martini, I paired it up with MSI's NX8800GT to form a mixed-vendor SLI configuration.

Although I only had enough time to test Crysis under Windows XP, I wanted to share the benchmark results. Note that anisotropic filtering (AF) was forced via the driver control panel and SS TAA indicates that supersampling transparceny antialiasing was enabled.

Also noteworthy is that the GeForce 8800 GT in SLI outperformed the GeForfce 8800 GTX in SLI in 3DMark06 (default settings) under Windows XP 14,159 to 14,143. No wonder the GeForce 8800 GT is such a hot commodity!

inCrysis Interview - 11/16/07 @ 9:01 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Browsing
inCrysis has posted the transcript of a chat session with Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek and Roy Taylor, Vice President of Content Relations at NVIDIA. A number of topics are discussed including performance improvements, performance under Windows XP vs. Windows Vista, enabling "Very High" features in DirectX 9, SLI support, quad-core support and much more.

AyeAye: I have a question for Roy, can we expect to see more performance gains in Crysis with releases of new drivers?

NVIDIA_Roy: Yes, we definitely can. Performance will improve, almost with every single driver drop and patch of the game. Literally every day and week we keep working on the drivers we can see improvements. There are many reasons for this, but it's important to remember that Crysis contains a million lines of code and 1GB of texture data and 85000 shaders. Even though it's a game it's a complex product and worthy of respect as a sophisticated software product.

R. Taylor Interview - 11/11/07 @ 12:16 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Email
DriverHeaven has posted an interview with NVIDA's Roy Taylor, Vice President of Content Relations. The interview touches on what to expect in 2008, "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" program, developer relations, driver optimizations, Crysis and Windows Vista.

Driver Heaven: Hi Roy - thanks for making the time to talk to us today, its fair to say it has been a great year for NVIDIA but i'm guessing you guys aren't resting on your laurels. What are the plans to keep the success story going in 2008?

Roy: Yes it’s been a great year for our "The Way Its Meant To Be Played" program. Most gamers have probably noticed that all of the top titles of 2007 are in the program, but you’re right we’re not standing still. In 2008 we will be making increased investments in our developer tools, especially with the SDK and for content creation.

As DX10 becomes the norm we want to arm developers with more feature examples so they can integrate better graphics into the gameplay more easily. At the same time we will be recruiting more staff to better support developers in emerging countries, because we see some real talent coming from China, Latin America and India, for example.

MSI NX8800GT Review - 11/08/07 @ 7:21 am - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
It's been a busy week, but we finally have posted a review of an NVIDIA based GeForce 8800 GT graphics card. The honor goes to MSI and their NX8800GT.

Let's just cut to the chase and get down to business.

Even at the resolution of 1920x1200, the MSI NX8800GT is such a strong competitor to the GeForce 8800 GTX, that the same AA settings that were reported at the resolution of 1680x1050 are also reported here. Once again, the NX8800GT is outperforming the GeForce 8800 GTX in Dark Messiah and in two of the three settings in Oblivion.
