Unleash the 7900GT - 3/30/06 @ 7:33 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Unleash (at your own risk) the 7900 GT to new levels of overclocking and 3D Mark2k6 benchmarking. How so? Get rid of the stock reference HSF...up the voltage and slap in a copper HSF usually employed on CPUs with a 92mm fan and wallah! Can you say 800 MHz core and 2 GHz (DDR) memory on air cooling alone? No? Why...because your jaws have dropped to the floor? I cannot but be amazed how good for value these new GeForce 7900 GT appear to be. Oh you can game too..as Overclocking Workbench provide pre and post overclock figures with FEAR and Quake 4.

That's a huge difference, from 50+ frames per second, our VR-Zone OC Edition bumped frame rates to 80+! A 50% increase in performance there! Didn't cost much as well.

G71 Reviews - 3/28/06 @ 6:55 am - By: MUYA - Source: Various
The recently launched G71 GPU has been the subject of much attention from websites and enthusiasts alike. A few cards from different AIB partners are reviewed by a variety of websites today. So if you are in the process of upgrading videocards or systems then the links below may help you in making an informed decision.

First off, GamePC reviews an ASUS EN7900GTX and an XFX 7900 GT. They test single card and SLI setups of the cards in question on a resolution of 1600 by 1200 with 4X AA and 8X AF applied on a few heavily pixel shaded games. Seems the 7900GT variant gets the most admiration from GamePC and why not...priced as it is.

The 7900 GT/GTX cards are not slam-dunk winners over ATI’s rival Radeon X1900 XT/XTX products, but they do provide some clear advantages. GeForce 7900 series cards typically consume less power, can run quieter, and clock for clock appear to perform slightly better. Let’s not also forget that nVidia’s multi-GPU technology (SLI) is still far smoother compared to ATI’s (Crossfire). The GeForce 7900 lineup now brings dual-link DVI and Hardware H.264 support to the take (which ATI has had for several months now), rounding out an excellent high-end graphics card package. While the 7900 GTX may be the top high-end graphics card for gamers right now, in my opinion, the 7900 GT is where most should be looking.

GDHardware takes Leadtek's GeForce 7900 GT video card for a spin in their labs next. The leadtek version does not depart from the reference HSF and is bundled with Serious Sam 2. After their round of benchmarking (non-SLI), it's the same as elsewhere, they cannot but carry on the popular theme of heaping praise for the 7900 GT.

The 7900GT is our top pick for gamers looking for a great game experience that offers the best performance per dollar we’ve seen to date. Leadtek seems to have done an admirable job of pricing this card with a suitable bundle.

Last but not least, 3D Avenue reviews an ASUS Geforce 7900GT video card all in one page. The Asus 7900 GT is compared to a Radeon x1800 XL on a few recently released games. This card does not depart from reference NVIDIA design, PCB or HSF but then again, there probably isn't a need as this variant of the G71, just seem to kick major botty but, don't take my word for it...read the quote below from the review.

As the performance results show, the 7900GT is easily classified as a high end videocard, keeping up with the former Nvidia leading 7800GTX in many instances, and defeating the more expensive ATI X1800XL in almost every test. On top of this, you have room for improvement as far as overclocking goes, and you naturally have the ability to upgrade with another down the track sometime if you have a SLI capable system.

7900 GT! - 3/27/06 @ 10:23 am - By: MUYA - Source: E-mail
The newly introduced GeForce 7900 GT is reviewed by Legit Review today. Slated to be sold for around $300, the GPU is maunfactured on 90nm process and paired with memory at 1.3GHz, they certainly look a steal.

With a pair of these cards in SLI, the performance hammered out is very competitive when compared to those with 512MB version of the 7800 GTX and crossfire setups from rivals ATi.

As we saw with the 7900GTX, Nvidia's move to 90nm has afforded them quite a bit of headroom on their entire lineup. Nowhere is this more evident than with the 7900GT. It's a great card for today’s demanding games and fits in very well at its intended price point. It's faster than the X1800XL, which is also in the $300 range and often times it was just as fast as the X1800XT that is slightly more expensive. The 7900GT has the advantage over the X1800XL not only in performance but also in heat

EVGA 7800 GS AGP - 3/27/06 @ 6:27 am - By: MUYA - Source: Email
PC Masters from Germany have put up a review of an eVGA 7800 GS Superclock AGP card which Mike reviewed a few weeks back. PC Masters review is in German, but if you click on the headline a google translated link is provided. The 7800 GS is the fastest card available powered by a NVIDIA GPU for AGP systems and so, you might want to consider this card if you do not intend a complete system overhaul to play them latest pixel shaded games.

SLI On The P4 - 3/23/06 @ 7:33 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Many of us bought into the Pentium 4 processor at one time. I have a 3.4GHz Prescott that gets used on a daily basis and recently upgraded the system by adding an nForce4 SLI motherboard.

Jonathan Martini had an opportunity to make a move to SLI on the Intel platform. Armed with an MSI's P4 Diamond motherboard and a Pentium 4 processor, he gets to play around with a couple of GeForce 7800 GT graphics cards...

BFG Does Physics - 3/22/06 @ 4:46 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Email
Hardware-assisted physics acceleration and its impact on gaming is getting underway. In one corner we have NVIDIA and Havok hooking up to demonstrate the world's first GPU-powered game physics solution at the 2006 Game Developer's Conference. This form of acceleration will be delivered by the GeForce 6 and GeForce 7 Series of GPUs.

In the other corner are hardware-accelerated physics cards powered by the AGEIA PhysX processor. BFG announced that their physics card is powering next-generation gaming systems that are available today from Alienware and Falcon Northwest.

In a related story, Dell announced today that it would buy Alienware.

To wrap things up, three senior-level Samsung employees are on their away to jail for having participated in a price-fixing conspiracy in the computer memory market. Samsung had already agreed to pay the Department of Justice a $300 million fine in 2005 in connection with the investigation.

GeForce 7600 GS - 3/22/06 @ 11:01 am - By: MikeC - Source: Email
Legit Reviews has a preview of NVIDIA's newly announced and passively-cooled GeForce 7600 GS GPU.

The GeForce 7300 LE GPU was also announced at the 2006 Game Developers Conference.

The NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS is a single slot card that features a 400MHz core clock speed with a GDDR2 memory clock speed of 400MHz (800MHz double data rate). The 7600 GS features 5 Vertex shading units with a total of 12 pixel shader pipelines.

This is the same number of shading units and pipelines found on the GeForce 7600 GT, so the only difference on the card is the clock speeds and the memory type used. Thanks to the lower clock speeds NVIDIA has been able to get the peak power consumption down to 32 Watts from the 67 Watts found on the 7600 GT...

Power Supplies - 3/16/06 @ 6:19 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Forums
Got this link from Tikiman44, which leads to an article about the increasing demands that power supplies are being subjected. Written by ExtremeTech's Loyd Case, the article is a must read for those interested in moving to a high-end SLI setup.

After the article ran, Brett Jacobs from AMD called. Jacobs works in the AMD performance testing lab, which constantly tests dozens of configurations. He had zeroed in on my comment about the system shutting down and had some interesting things to share.

Since the public launch of the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 series this past week (March 09, 2006) we have been assisting Roderick Colenbrander, or better known as NVClock's Thunderbird, in appending support for this card under this Linux NVIDIA utility. For those that have never used NVClock, it is a text-based and graphical (GTK or Qt) utility released under the GNU General Public License and was originally designed as the lone NVIDIA overclocking utility. Today we have been testing some new NVClock code and have additional information available in regards to the 7900GT and other information to assist developers.

UWXGA Gaming! - 3/11/06 @ 6:16 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
For those who have the funds to splash on new GeForce 7900 GTX or Radeon X1900 XT surely need a monitor that can show off the true potential of these graphics cards. That's where Dell's 3007WFP 30 in. widescreen LCD with a native resolution of 2560 by 1600 and 11ms response times comes in.

FiringSquad has a few numbers from games such as Quake 4, FEAR, Half-Life 2 and IL-2. At this resolution AA almost becomes a non-factor, but AF is turned on for some benches. The numbers they return are just so mouth watering. Click on the headline to read their preview as they promise more numbers soon.

Once two cards are used however NVIDIA’s SLI GeForce 7900 GTX was able to pull a little further from two X1900 XTX cards running in CrossFire mode, while the 7900 GT SLI system outperformed the X1800 CrossFire setup we tested.

NVIDIA Launches G71 - 3/09/06 @ 7:47 am - By: MUYA - Source: Various
Today sees the lifting of NDAs and hard launch of NVIDIA's new GPUs manufactured on the new 90nm process - the GeForce 7900 GTX and GeForce 7900 GT with 24 pixel processing pipelines and 8 vertex shading units.

The GTX chip has a core clock of 650Hz and GDDR3 memory running at an effective data rate of 1.4GHz. The GT core runs at 450MHz and memory at 1.32GHz.

CeBIT 2006, HANNOVER, Germany, MARCH 9 NVIDIA Corporation, the worldwide leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, today announced three new additions to the NVIDIA GeForce 7 Series of graphics processing units (GPUs) set to make extreme high-definition (HD) gaming a reality. These new GPUs include:

  • GeForce 7900 GTX GPU - the new flagship GPU from NVIDIA delivers blazing core clocks for ultra-fast graphics performance and extends the Company's performance leadership. (1)

    (1) Performance leadership based on testing GeForce 7900 GTX against the leading competitor, the ATI Radeon X1900 XTX. Performance tested on FutureMark’s 3DMark 06 benchmark at the benchmark default setting of 1280x1024 shows GeForce 7900 GTX scoring 5254 vs ATI Radeon X1900XTX scoring 5073 on an Athlon FX-57-based system with 1GB of memory running Windows XP SP2.

  • GeForce 7900 GT GPU - a new performance GPU that offers up to double the performance of the Company's last generation performance product. (2)

    (2) Claim based on testing GeForce 7900 GT against the GeForce 6800 GT, the previous generation performance product from NVIDIA. Performance tested on HalfLife 2: Day of Defeat (anzio level) at settings of 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF shows GeForce 7900 GT scoring 54 fps vs GeForce 6800 GT scoring 26.7 fps on a Athlon FX-57-based system with 1GB of memory running Windows XP SP2.

  • GeForce 7600 GT GPU - this new midrange GPU is destined to inherit the unofficial title of "price/performance leader" (3) from the product it replaces, the GeForce 6600 GT GPU.

    (3) Based on statement by editors in reviews including, but not limited to:

Tom's Hardware: "Measured by its price, the performance of the GeForce 6600 GT is very impressive and, for the time being, without competition."

Gamespot: "As it stands, the 6600 GT looks to be the king of the hill when it comes to sub-$200 video cards."

FiringSquad: "NVIDIA’s GeForce 6600 GT AGP is the unquestioned price/performance leader at the $200 price point, there’s just nothing else out there that comes close to touching it in terms of speed or feature set at that price."

HotHardware: "Clearly, the GeForce 6600 GT has set a new standard for performance in value-minded PCI Express gaming."

512MB 7800GT - 3/07/06 @ 6:27 am - By: MUYA - Source: E-mail
Pure overclock has another gem from Gainward again. This time they test a Gainward 512MB BLISS 7800 GT. That's a 7800 GT with 512MB of onboard memory. It's core and memory are overclocked to 450 MHz and 1.3 GHz giving the X1800XT a good run for its money.

The 512MB of 1.4ns memory significantly boosts its performance and allows for a lot of overclocking headroom plus the card also looks pretty cool in its nice new red clothing.

EVGA 7800 GTX KO - 3/03/06 @ 5:19 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Digit Life has reviewed an eVGA 7800 GTX KO with AC3 cooling system and found it to be quite desirable if you have the funds. Bear in mind NVIDIA will launch their 7900 GTX soon and this card will make way for "flagship" title. Still, a note that the 7800 GTX KO version is a 512MB card and eVGA with the help of their cooler have clocked this card at 490MHz core and 1.3GHz memory. The benchmarks can be viewed by clicking the headline.

EVGA e-GeForce 7800 GTX KO ACS3 Edition 256MB PCI-E is a very good modification of the overclocked 7800 GTX 256MB. We have seen such cases before. But in this case the frequencies are high and the card promises to be affordable

NVIDIA Introduces PureVideo with H.264 Hardware Acceleration Across Family of Desktop and Integrated GPUs for BluRay and HDDVD Video Content;

NVIDIA PureVideo technology provides hardware acceleration for decoding H.264, VC-1, WMV and MPEG-2 movies and performs post processing techniques on the decoded high definition content, including spatial-temporal de-interlacing and inverse telecine. This provides consumers with precise images that have up to six times the detail of standard DVD movies. The PureVideo discrete video processing core offloads the CPU and 3D engine of complex video tasks, freeing the PC to run multiple applications simultaneously, while consuming less power
