Quad SLI Preview - 4/30/06 @ 8:25 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
x-bit labs has a preview of NVIDIA's GeForce 7900 GX2 card which is actually 2 cards (each with a g71 GPU). On each 7900 GX2, a G71 GPU is allocated 512 MB of on-board memory and connected through a special bridge chip with 16X PCIe lanes to the other daughter card and the system. The two GPUs on the card work in SLI mode. The core and memory are clocked lower than a single GPU card at 550 MHz and 1.2GHz (DDR).

For quad SLI, NVIDIA has introduced a new mode of SLI, AFR of SFR where each card alternately renders a frame split between the two GPUs of one card after the other. Introduced also is the new 32X SLI AA which is also benched with games by x-bit labs.

The GX2 cards are benched (when possible) at resolution of 2560 by 1600 with 32X SLI AA and compared to a crossfire x1900 XTX system on a variety of games. Click on the headlines to read the preview.

The quad SLI technology indisputably has potential: already now it demonstrates the highest scores in such games as F.E.AR., Far Cry with HDR enabled, scores best high-resolution numbers in Elder Scroll’s Oblivion, it wins Chronicles of Riddick tests, it produces amazing quality with 32xs SLI AA enabled, it does a plethora of great things

Accelero X1 - 4/26/06 @ 10:35 am - By: MikeC - Source:
Brian Cochran finishes up his evaluation of the Arctic Cooler Accelero X1.

"The Accelero X1 comes in one of those plastic packages that require you pull out a heavy duty pair of scissors or knife to get it open. I absolutely hate that type of packaging. It's annoying; almost every smaller tech item comes in this packaging nowadays. I have ruined 2 pairs of my wife's good scissors opening up my tech toys. I can't help it. I'm an addict."

XFX 7900GTX XXX - 4/26/06 @ 9:25 am - By: MUYA - Source: E-mail
Guru3D review XFX's GeForce 7900 GTX XXX edition. This card is another factory overclocked card with core clocked at 700MHz and memory set at 1.8GHz (DDR).The bundle with this card is sparse to say the least with one game included. However, the performance of this card more than makes it up for that. All numbers from Guru3D are single card configuration on latest games. Click on the headline to read the review.

With a card like the 7900 GTX 512 MB you can play your games at 1920x1200 like I do and you do not have to compromise at all. Turn on 4xAA and sixteen levels of anisotropic filtering, the card will still push well over 80 frames per second (on average) in Quake 4 for example. So I really do not need to go into much detail to describe how well games play with this card.

7900 GT Review - 4/25/06 @ 6:45 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
x-bit labs reviews a reference GeForce 7900 GT. The 7900 GT is currently turning a lot of heads due to its price performance ratio only being priced at around $299.Click on the headline to read x-bit labs findings.

The newcomer proved just great during our real-time test session. In most tasks it outperformed Radeon X1800 XL and in some of them it competed on equal terms with a more powerful Radeon X1800 XT. Of course, 24 TMUs it features helped a lot to achieve this success, because it resulted in higher fillrate – an important parameter for games rich in texturing samples.

High End Shootout - 4/19/06 @ 7:11 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Extremetech reviews the performance in a 3 way shootout of the PNY Verto GeForce 7900 GTX Limited Edition clocked at 675Mhz core and 1.64 GHz (DDR), eVGA GeForce 7900 GTX Superclocked clocked at 690 MHz core and 1.76 GHz (DDR) and a ASUS x1900XTX today. All performance numbers are with a single card setup. Seems even though the PNY is clocked lower than the eVGA card, it came out on top between the two which leads ET to believe that the eVGA card maybe throttling back due to heat issues. 7900 Reviews - 4/18/06 @ 6:38 am - By: MUYA - Source:
Extremetech has an exclusive preview at the GeForce Go 7900 GTX, the mobile version of NVIDIA's flagship G71 GPU. The Go 7900 GTX GPU is available on Dell's XPS M1710 laptop model. Very impressive numbers with the Go 7900 GTX core being clocked at 500 MHz and memory at 1.2GHZ (DDR) all for power rating at 45 W!

Since the Go 7900 GTX on the surface just seems like a refresh of the Go 7800 GTX, we weren't expecting substantial improvements in performance over the earlier release. But the fine tuning of the architecture, plus the process shrink, seems to have paid substantial dividends. The GeForce Go 7900 GTX offers substantial improvements in performance over the older GPU, albeit at the cost of slightly increased power consumption.

PC Persepective on the other hand review a BFG Tech GeForce 7900 GTX OC video card which runs 20 MHz core and 40 MHz (DDR) overclocked from NVIDIA recommended settings. They provide single card and SLI mode performance numbers at resolutions of 1600 x1200 and also 2048 x 1536 for all you lucky 30" LCD monitor owners.

The BFG 7900 GTX OC is a screaming fast video card for anyone that wants the best gaming experience for their PC. Taking NVIDIA's flagship 7900 GTX GPU, overclocking it for you and supporting that overclock with a lifetime warranty

7900 GX2 Quad SLI - 4/17/06 @ 10:29 am - By: MikeC - Source: Email
MVKTech has just published a new preview about the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GX2 Quad SLI.

"NVIDIA has taken advantage of their leading position when it comes to multi-GPU technology, which they have introduced quite successfully some years ago. This technology was launched as SLI, Scalable Link Interface to bundle the performance of two graphics cards. SLI is a high-performance technology that intelligently combines and scales graphics performance and visual quality by having multiple NVIDIA GPU's in a single system. NVIDIA has puched once again the limits and instead of running two video cards together in SLI mode, they can now run four graphics processors in SLI mode, known as Quad SLI."

Gigabyte 7900 GT - 4/12/06 @ 8:46 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Gamepyre are full of praise for Gigabyte's GeForce 7900 GT based graphics card, the NX79T GeForce 7900GT. The card is bundled with Serious Sam 2 and has 2 DVI ports and 1 S-Video Out port. Their sample overclocked well over 100MHz core and memory so plenty of headroom there for improved performance over stock clocks.

For the price of $339 online, the 7900GT has no peer at this price point. As the 7900GT generally outperforms the competition at its default clock speed, this makes the GIGABYTE card a decent choice to buy a new card. Later, if you want to buy a second 7900GT, you get more performance than any currently available single video card in SLI mode.

MSI K8N Review - 4/11/06 @ 10:04 am - By: MUYA - Source: N/A
Steve Angelly has posted his review of the MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard. Check it out here.

A snippet from the intro.

Today NVNEWS is privileged with the opportunity of reviewing another potential 'diamond' from MSI. The K8N Diamond Plus uses the NVIDIA nForce4 SLI x16 PCI-Express chipset primarily consisting of two platform processors, the SPP (system platform processor) and the MCP (media communications processor) with a HyperTransport link sandwiched in between.

A follow-up to the AMD nForce4 solution (K8N Diamond) as well as MSI's offering of the Intel nForce4 version, the P4N Diamond both of which have been successful in catering to the enthusiast. We fully expect to see a full-featured board similar to the previous offerings mentioned with some enhancements and hopefully some viable upgrades.

G71 Clock Stabilty - 4/10/06 @ 7:44 pm - By: MUYA - Source: Various
PCPer reports that customers with factory overclocked cards that are unstable can exchange them. Customers are advised to contact the card's manufacturer to get them replaced for stable versions (same overclock).

The root cause for instability as reported by Ryan at PCPer was due to the vertex shading units being clocked 50MHz higher than the pixel processing pipelines.

7900 GTX users suffering from those problems are therefore advised to get into contact with their card manufacturers and attempt to get their cards replaced.

7900 GT Roundup - 4/05/06 @ 6:45 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Trusted Reviews cards based on NVIDIA's GeForce 7900 GT GPUs from, ASUS, BFG, eVGA, Leadtek and XFX. All but the ASUS variant are pre-overclocked models and all look like clones of each other except the sticker badge on the reference coolers. Trusted Reviews have single and SLI figures in comparision to a 7900 GTX based card as pricepoint issue as 2 GeForce 7900 GTs based cards cost the same or just a little more than a 7900 GTX based card. Overclocking was on the agenda at Trusted Reviews with the XFX model getting the highest overclocks at 590 MHz core and 900 MHz memory (1.8 GHz DDR). Click on the headline to read their numbers and findings.

What is interesting about all these graphics cards is that they all use the same 1.4ns Samsung memory. Doing a little maths, that equates to a frequency of 715MHz. Yet strangely the default clock speed of the 7900 GT is only 660MHz. Even the 7600 GT operates at 700MHz, using identical Samsung modules. So why have nVidia chosen to underclock the memory on these cards? To be honest, who cares – the point is there is room for quite a bit of overclocking.

Graphics Shootout - 4/04/06 @ 8:37 am - By: MUYA - Source: Various
Firingsquad has an Edler Scrolls 4: Oblivion shoot out of video cards 9 cards, single card mode or SLI,Crossfire mode based on NVIDIA GPUs starting with the 7900 GTX against cards based on rivals ATI's x1900 XT VPUs. All sorts of in-game environment are tested at resolutions of 1600 by 1200 with HDR, or HDR off but with AA and AF turned on. Where as x1900XT based card seems rather strong on single card mode, SLI numbers for NVIDIA G71 based cards indicate stronger performance by significant amounts. Even a SLI setup of G70 or 7800 GTX cards keep up with the crossfire x1900 XT setup. This possibly highlights the level of maturity SLI technology as compared to its rival's.

Extremetech on the other hand concentrate their efforts on a range of multi budget video cards and an array of games to give you their verdict on the "most bang on the buck" purchase including factors such as resolution and AA and AF.

GF 7900 GT Reviews - 4/01/06 @ 1:02 am - By: MUYA - Source: Various
Box Gods have their review of XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB posted. This card sees no departure from NVIDIA's reference design but it still maintains the 7900 GT price performance factor we are seeing across the web. The card come bundled with Starship Troopers and XFX also offers a "Double Lifetime" warranty.

Let's face it--most of us read the press and reviews on the high end uber video cards that can easily top one grand in dual card configuration--and we drool. But the reality is, few of us can afford to burn that kinda coin on something we really don't NEED. What blasphemy is this? You heard me right--we don't really need all that video processing horsepower to play the games currently out--or those due out in the foreseeable future--as the very respectable benchmark numbers of XFX's GeForce 7900GT that follow demonstrate

HardwareZone reviews the MSI NX7900GT-T2D256E. This card is again non too changed from NVIDIA's reference version but it is bundled with Peter Jackson's King Kong. MSI's version has a D.O.T overclocking tool/facility for a modest 10% overclock under warranty but otherwise, it is pretty much the same as any other 7900 GT offerings. HWZ uses a moderate system with an AMD Athlon64 3500+ which could be a useful indicator for all of mainstream system owners.

The advantage that the MSI NX7900GT-T2D256E has is in MSI's proprietary D.O.T technology. This allows end-users to overclock up to 10% easily and without worries and since it is covered under MSI's warranty, you could very well have it enabled all the time and treat as a factory overclocked card. This makes the MSI NX7900GT-T2D256E much faster than most of its current competition in the market.
