Inno3D 86/85 Review - 5/31/07 @ 8:45 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Kyle Kerley takes a look at a couple of mainstream graphics cards from Inno3D, which are based on NVIDIA's GeForce 8 Series - the 8500 GT and 8600 GT.

Here is a tidbit from performance in F.E.A.R.:

Once again, the 8600 GT is able to smoke through the benchmarks until maximum engine settings at 2560x1600. F.E.A.R definitely gave the 8500 GT a run for its money with performance never breaking out of the mid-20s in terms of average frames per second. Double-digit framerate at 2560x1600 with medium and high settings was quite surprising and shows that for all the diminished power behind the 8500 GT it has a fighter's spirit.

Value In Mainstream - 5/29/07 @ 3:12 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Browsing
Interesting story. If you ever doubted the value of mainstream products, or products that appeal (and are affordable) to the mainstream population, then look no further than Nintendo's Wii.

Video game console sales usually fall sharply after the holidays. Yet, last month, Nintendo sold 360,000 Wiis, 39% more than in March, says market research firm NPD. Microsoft sold 174,000 Xbox 360s, a 13% drop, while Sony sold 82,000 PS3s, a 37% decline. April marked the fourth-consecutive month the Wii outsold the competition.

The Witcher News - 5/27/07 @ 6:14 am - By: MikeC - Source: Email
GamingHeaven has posted an interview with Michal Madej who is chief designer of the upcoming PC title "The Witcher", which he describes as a modern adaptation of the classic RPG, where great effort is placed on an intricate, non-linear, and absorbing plot.

The interview also includes a brief video clip that covers the sound effects and music behind the game.

“The Witcher” is a very modern adaptation of the classic RPG, where great effort is placed on an intricate, non-linear, and absorbing plot. Additional strong points of the game are its original, unusual, and adult fantasy world, which the player gets to explore through Geralt – the story’s main character, the legendary monster slayer, known also as the White Wolf.

Moreover, “The Witcher” offers electrifying, dynamic, and visually spectacular combat. Largely thanks to these characteristics, I strongly believe that the game will strike a positive chord with a wide section of gamers. After all, who of us has not fallen spell before to an intriguing plot, stimulating action, and charismatic heroes?

MSI NX8600GTS Review - 5/20/07 @ 2:37 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Brian Cochran has completed a review of MSI's NX8800GTS OC graphics card.

"So, you want a Direct X 10 compatible video card that won't break the bank? You don't necessarily need an upper-range card to push pixels in all their screaming goodness? How about a mid-ranged card at a mid-ranged price? There will come a time when DX9 is just not enough for the latest games. The MSI NX8600GTS will allow budget gamers to break into the DX10 gaming era."Check it out right here!

8800 GTS Review - 5/09/07 @ 4:46 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Email
In another GeForce 8800 review, Tech-Hounds takes an extensive look at the 320MB and 640MB variants of the GTS model. The article compares texture filtering image quality against the GeForce 7950 GT and Radeon X1950 Pro. Antialiasing sample patterns are also covered and includes comparison using a variety of game titles and video clips. Performance results are also provided.

Today, we've been quite fortunate to be able to spend time with the more affordable versions of the GeForce 8800 series - the GeForce 8800GTS 640 and 320 MB. The GeForce 8800GTS and the GeForce 8 series in general brought much to the table. On the top of the list are much higher quality, angle independent anisotropic filtering and an improved 4x MSAA - clearly two much needed improvements over the last generation of products from NVIDIA. Add to that support for DirectX 10, shader processing performance and much quicker time to market, its no wonder the GeForce 8800 series quickly became the high end graphics card of choice for demanding, image quality conscious gamers. Don't left out its jump in performance over current generation of cards.

8800 320MB Roundup - 5/09/07 @ 4:21 pm - By: MikeC - Source: Email
X-bit labs has a roundup of eight GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB graphics cards from the likes of ASUS, EVGA, Gainward, and XFX. Specifics of each graphics card are presented along with the results of a performance shootout in Battlefield 2142, Call of Juarez, Command & Conquer 3, Company of Heroes, Gothic 3, Neverwinter Nights 2, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and Supreme Commander.

EVGA solution wins in two nominations out of four. Great job, EVGA! But all in all, each of the six Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB based graphics cards we have discussed is a great purchase, especially if you do not care that much about rich accessories bundle. Anyway, the performance difference between these graphics cards is not high enough to affect the gaming process noticeably. If the onboard memory is not enough for some of the games, then it affects any of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB solutions tested today.

MSI 8800GTS 320MB - 5/07/07 @ 5:33 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Kyle Kerley has completed a review of MSI's NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD OC graphics card. Based on the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS GPU, this 320MB variant comes overclocked (core and memory) out of the box and is bundled with a retail version of Company of Heroes.

Kyle compares performance to the 640MB GeForce 8800 GTS at resolutions of 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 in a variety of leading-edge games that include S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Neverwinter Nights 2, Company of Heroes, Oblivion, Half-Life 2, and F.E.A.R.

With prices below $300, the power of the best NVIDIA has to offer is now available for everyone. With the only difference between the two GTS models being the amount of GDDR3 RAM (640MB vs. 320MB) the sub-$300 price is attractive and reasonable. MSI took the reference design and upped the ante by increasing the core and memory clock speeds in their NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD OC offering. The increase in raw speed on the card served as a good reminder that the marketing hype of "more memory = faster" is definitely not always the case as was discovered when put the through the paces against its bigger, but slower, 640MB brother.
