Prey SLI Support - 6/27/06 @ 3:38 pm - By: MikeC - Source: NVIDIA
NVIDIA notice about SLI support for Prey:

A few enthusiasts have commented that the recent Prey demo does not support NVIDIA SLI. NVIDIA is currently testing a Prey SLI profile, which we expect to release later this week in a new driver on nZone.com.

In the meantime, users can simply copy and paste the Quake 4 profile to make Prey scale. Prey and Quake 4 were developed with the DOOM 3 (OpenGL) engine, and SLI scales very well on Quake 4.

NVIDIA recommends users download the new 91.31 ForceWare drivers for Prey. This driver works great on the Prey demo with all NVIDIA GPUs.

NVIDIA works closely with all developers and publishers as part of NVIDIA’s The Way It’s Meant To Be Played program. By working with Human Head Studios (developers of Prey) and 2K Games, we were able to further improve performance on SLI, which users will see when the new drivers are available later this week.

Gigabyte GX2 Review - 6/23/06 @ 7:54 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Hardwarezone's has good words to say about Gigabyte's Gigabyte GV-3D1-7950-RH (GeForce 7950 GX2) card which can be found for $559. The card comes bundled with Serious Sam II and Cyberlinks' PowerDVD 6 otherwise it's pretty much a clone of reference NVIDIA design. Good to game...on. Click on the headline to read their review.

eVGA GX2 Review - 6/21/06 @ 7:33 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Two headed snake..at least that is what ET call the new eVGA GeForce 7950 GX2 and this dual-gpu card is certainly something that can catch an enthusiast's imagination. One major benefit is that GX2 does not require a SLI capable motherboard. It can be installed on a motherboard with a PCIe 16X graphics port with a BIOS upgrade. eVGA's GX2 can be found for $575!. That is cheaper than 2 7900 GTXs and about the same as two 7900 GTs.

The 7950 GX2 is a really good idea, well executed. There are some hardcore gamers—or gamers that have begun to discover their hardcore performance needs—who would like to run a dual-graphics setup but simply don't meet the requirements. Either they don't have precisely the right motherboard, their power supply isn't beefy enough for two high-end cards, or they don't have enough room in their case…whatever. The GX2 neatly sidesteps many of those problems, giving you SLI performance in a single slot.

XFX 7600GT Review - 6/19/06 @ 9:59 pm - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
Kyle Kerley has completed his review of the XFX GeForce 7600 GT running under a single GPU configuration and in SLI mode. Performance is compared to the older, but popular, GeForce 6800 GT and the new GeForce 7600 GST.

"F.E.A.R. being arguably one of the most demanding engines on the market today, it is refreshing to see that these sub-$200 video cards can play at 1280x960 with settings maxed out and still have a very enjoyable gaming experience. With an average framerate of 43fps, these cards can take some of the harshest abuse modern gaming has to offer and comes back asking for more and more."

7950 GX2 Reviews - 6/19/06 @ 9:20 am - By: MUYA - Source: Various
GD Hardware reviews Leadtek's GeForce 7900 GX2 video card. Reference everything clocks and HSF. Nothing too different from NVIDIA's design but, these cards are value for money costing the same as 2 individual 7900 GTs.

Inquirer on the other hand reviews a Gainward 7950 GX2 video card. This card yet again isn't too different from stock NVIDIA settings. Although, Inquirer detects optimal settings at 550 MHz core and 1.4GHz memor which, sounds promising.

Clay has posted a review of Uniblue's Registry Booster.

However, the bottom line is that it's also one of the most fundamentally important tools towards maintaining a clean and well-performing Windows operating system...."

GX2 Review - 6/13/06 @ 8:31 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Trusted Review's Spode takes NVIDIA's new dual PCB, dual GPU solution the GeForce 7950 GX2 for a spin. With prices approaching a single 7900 GTX levels, the GX2 cards might offer a lot of value per dollar invested. Spode was curious about the GX2's performance vs two clocked matched 7900 GTs. Spode's benched a few demanding games with the two setups with high AA and high AF applied. How did they compare? Click on the headline above.

Having the two GPUs on one card should fractionally improve performance over an SLI solution as there is less latency. This was in fact the case, with one or two frames per second being noticed, but certainly nothing major. In the higher resolutions however, these differences became quite large indeed – 38 fps compared to 30.

7950 GX2 Update - 6/11/06 @ 11:04 am - By: MikeC - Source: N/A
In some cases, an updated motherboard BIOS is sometimes necessary for NVIDIA's newly-released GeForce 7950 GX2 to function as intended. In my preview, I used an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, which I flashed from BIOS version 1103 to 1205. Updating a motherboard BIOS is not to be taken lightly and should not be attempted unless it corrects a specific issue, such as an incompatibility.

NVIDIA's engineers worked overtime with many motherboard manufacturers in providing a PCI Express compliant System BIOS for the GeForce 7950 GX2. Although I was aware that a motherboard compatibility list would be posted on launch day, I was a bit surprised when I read the following disclaimer:

NVIDIA's internal testing is limited to System BIOS (SBIOS) and electrical interoperability with GeForce 7950 GX2. NVIDIA makes no warranties and assumes no liability with respect to the accuracy or completeness of any testing, test result, or any other information provided on this website. Nothing herein is intended to constitute any endorsement, express or implied, by NVIDIA of any product listed or not listed on this website."

A few days after the GeForce 7950 GX2 preview was posted, I began to wipe the test system clean and perform a fresh install of Windows XP. Early on during the installation, which I subsequently cancelled, I received a message that the motherboard BIOS was not ACPI compliant.

Now I finally knew why my test system failed to enter standby with the 1205 BIOS.

I proceeded to visit the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe support forum and discovered a few posts in regards to the 1205 BIOS. One post mentioned that certain USB devices failed to work after the BIOS upgrade, which I was able to confirm when I discoverd that a digital camera and label printer were no longer working.

Other users reported problems with RAID, which I was not using.

After more searching around their web site, I discovered that Asus does not list the A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard as being compatible with their GeForce 7950 GX2-based EN7950GX2 graphics card.

The GeForce 7950 GX2 is an awesome product. It appears though that a few of us will be experience growing pains as motherboard manufacturers get compliant BIOS versions out the door.

NVIDIA Interview - 6/09/06 @ 9:34 am - By: MikeC - Source: Reuters
Reuters talks with Rob Csongor V.P. of Corporate Marketing at NVIDIA. NVIDIA currently holds 52 percent market share in the global graphics card industry competing with ATI's 48 percent. NVIDIA posted record revenue of $2.38 Billion for its latest fiscal year. Csonger explains that.

"Our revenues are ramping up sharply," he said in Taipei at Computex, the world's second-largest computer show.

Also adding:

"We're looking at good, healthy growth for the year -- both for our main as well as our new businesses."

He also stated that some of the best growth was coming from mobile products along with new computers being outfitted for 3D graphics for use with Microsoft's new Vista operating system..

MSI GX2 Review - 6/08/06 @ 8:32 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Hardwarezone reviews MSI's GeForce 7950 GX2 dual GPU card. Apart from the badge on the HSF, nothing is changed from the reference design. The GX2 card runs on par with a 7900 GT SLI system on the resolutions they bench the card with even with, AA and AF turned on. Bundle wise? MSI have been a bit frugal with only a copy of Perter Jackson's King Kong game DVD to show for. I think AiBs need to spice up their bundles since most cards these days hardly stray from reference NVIDIA designs. With the benchmark numbers though, I think this cards are awaiting Conroes imminent arrival for their graphics powers to be unleashed.

More GX2 Reviews - 6/07/06 @ 10:33 am - By: MUYA - Source: Browsing
Carrying with the GeForce 7950 GX2 frenzy, Tweaktown reviews XFX 's version of GeForce 7950 GX2 which is clocked 570MHz core, 70MHz more than reference clocks and 1.3 GHz memory, 100MHz over reference clock. Are the extra boost helpful? Read Tweaktown's review.

Even at 2560 x 1600 with a dual core CPU setup with AA and AF turned on to high levels, we are able to play games. Some people may feel that it even looks pretty good at these settings without AA and AF but once you turn the AA to 8 and the AF to 16, your jaw real does drop as you see your 30” LCD screen light up like it never has before.

Then bit-tech have a go with a GeForce 7950 GX2 reference card. For about the same price as a 7900 GT setup, the GX2 may be something to look at if you do indeed intend to upgrade from last generation or couple of generations cards. Keep in mind, there are still Quad SLI issues (if you intend to go that way) which will hopefully get fixed by end of summer.

There is no doubting that the GeForce 7950 GX2 is the fastest video card on the market today that fits into a single PCI-Express x16 interconnect, and it holds that crown by a good distance in the majority of titles.
