GeForece2Go Review - 1/30/02 @ 5:48 am - By: MikeC - Source: Email
Chris Connolly over at GamePC takes the GeForce2 Go for a spin. Overall, he was very impressed with NVIDIA's first entry into the mobile market. But with NVIDIA, there's usually something better right around the corner.

While the current GeForce2Go is one of the top performers in the notebook market, the name still says it all. GeForce 2 Go. The GeForce2's day in the sun is long past, as the GeForce3 and GeForce3 Titanium families are also nearing the end of their product cycle. Considering nVidia has all but passed up the opportunity for a GeForce3Go (or perhaps, GeForce3-2-Go?), we're betting that nVidia's next generation mobile chip (codenamed NV17-M) should be hitting markets fairly soon with a new name attached.

Platform Conference - 1/27/02 @ 1:35 pm - By: Typedef Enum - Source: Fool
Van's Hardware has some info regarding the going's on at the recent Platform Conference in San Jose. Here are a few of the highlights.
  • AMD confirmed that SSE2 will be included in all Hammer processors, including the Clawhammer, which is scheduled to debut later this year.

  • NVIDIA told us that NV17 is five times faster than GeForce2Go, while consuming less power.

  • Sales of its nForce core logic controller are very brisk, with some vendors claiming to be quickly selling out of nForce-powered motherboards.

  • DDR400 will not likely happen at all -- at least as far as modules are concerned -- because this speed will not be easy to achieve unless a new core is designed, which, in itself, would be a two year process. At best, DDR400 is seen as a niche product.
MikeC: The NV17 being five times faster than the GeForce2 Go is more than likely in regards to antialiasing performance.

Mobile NV vs ATI - 1/11/02 @ 10:07 am - By: JonathanM - Source: Email
Got Apex? has posted a comparison between two Dell laptops, one powered by NVIDIA's GeForce2 GO and the other by ATi's Mobility RADEON 7500. ATI's experience in the mobile market is far superior to NVIDIA's initial attempt with the GO chipset. Will NVIDIA redeem itself with the upcomming NV17?

When I recently stepped on and broke my Compaq Armada M300, I shopped around Compaq's site searching for an Athlon4 laptop with a decent video card. Well if you have performed this same search then you know no one has yet to offer an Athlon4 notebook with a GeForce2 Go or a Radeon 7500. Failing my quest for a dream laptop I conceded that it would be yet another Intel lappy for me. The major factor I was considering was my aching to have a notebook with a powerful video card, such as the GeForce2 Go or the ATi M7 (Mobile Radeon 7500.).

More On Comdex - 11/15/01 @ 9:53 pm - By: HalcYoN - Source: Email - The J-Bomb
Via Harwdare has posted a load of pictures from Comdex including shots from NVIDIA's press conference and snaps of the MSI and Abit nForce based motherboards.

Nvidia was the first company that I visited, at their press conference at The Venetian Hotel. Nvidia announced a new product, codenamed the NV17M. This is a new mobile graphics chipset which is a lot faster than the current GeForce2 Go now shipping in many laptops. Again, Toshiba is Nvidia's launch partner and we should see the NV17M in new Toshiba notebooks in early 2002. The new GPU uses PowerMizer technology to improve battery life, and also offloads decoding of DVD video from the CPU to the GPU.

NV17M Preview - 11/13/01 @ 11:52 am - By: MikeC - Source:
NVIDIA is announcing their next generation mobile graphics processing unit today. Code named NV17M, the new mobile GPU has undergone a complete redesign and will be available in laptops in the first quarter of 2002. I've put together a short preview that covers some of the exciting and revolutionary new features of the NV17M.

Click here to check it out.

Here's a portion of the press release.

"Our new-generation mobile GPU simultaneously addresses the conflicting demands of the mobile environment while delivering desktop-caliber performance," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. "NVIDIA dramatically altered the mobile computing environment with our original GeForce2 Go mobile GPU, and our newest GPU ensures notebook users of the fastest, most comprehensive and feature-rich computing experience ever realized on a mobile platform."

Quadro2 Go Laptop - 11/12/01 @ 7:01 am - By: JonathanM - Source:
There's a link on NVIDIA's main page about a new Dell notebook computer that features a variation of the GeForce2 Go chipset. They Quadro2 Go chipset, like it's desktop equivalents, is a worstation graphics chip. Combined with Intel's latest 1.2GHz mobile Pentium 3 and 512MB of RAM, it seems to me like Dell an NVIDIA are out to show that workstations can go anywhere.
  • Intel(r) Pentium(r) III processor-M at 1.2GHz
  • 512MB PC133 SDRAM system memory
  • 48GB1 maximum internal storage
  • 3D Open GL graphics with NVIDIA Quadro2GO graphics card and 32MB DDR video memory
  • 15" UXGA display

Asus GF2 Go - 10/26/01 @ 8:59 am - By: JonathanM - Source: Email
IT Buyer Guide has posted a pic and some info on Asus' upcomming Tualatin/GF2 Go powered laptop.

ASUS is going to announce new generation of full size all-in-one notebook, B2 model, that use Intel Pentium III Tualatin desktop processor (yes desktop processor on notebook system) which is based on VIA Apollo Pro 266T chipset with 2.5V PC2100 DDR SO-DIMM support (2 slots for supporting up to 1GB). This notebook will be using nVidia Geforce2 Go graphics chipset with 32MB DDR memory; this make ASUS the fourth vendor (after Toshiba, Dell and Gateway) to use nVidia Geforce2 Go chipset.

GF2 Go & TV-Out - 10/23/01 @ 2:10 am - By: JonathanM - Source: NVchips-fr
Looking to use that TV-out on your GeForce2 Go powered laptop, but having problems configuring it due to your setup? Tv Tool may have the solution for you:

Mostly itīs interesting for laptop owners with a nVidia GF2Go-chip and a TV output. So far the support of TVTool for this chip is relativly limited, that means you have to go the complicated way through the nVidia driver settings to turn on the TV output. Only then TVTool can be started. But this doesnīt apply if thereīs a monitor attached to the laptop. In this case the whole functionality of the tool can be used. But I guess you donīt want to carry a monitor always with you just to turn on the TV mode comfortably. At this point the monitor dummy comes into play.
