NVNEWS IRC INFORMATION
Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a service that allows people from all over the world to participate in real-time discussions over the Internet. nV News invites you to join their IRC channel to discuss a variety of topics such as NVIDIA, graphics cards, computer hardware, and games. We also try to lend a helping hand when it comes to solving computer related problems. Or maybe you want to drop by for some lively off-topic conversation.
mIRC - IRC Client for Windows
A client program is necessary in order to use IRC. The most popular IRC client program for the Windows operating system is mIRC. Links to IRC clients for the Linux and Macintosh operating systems can be found here. If you are a first-time user of mIRC, be sure to check out this page.
CONNECTING TO AN IRC SERVER
Before connecting to an IRC server with mIRC for the first time, you will need to create a Nickname, which will be your identity. For example, GenericBrand was entered as the Nickname for Mike Chambers, which is shown in the following screenshot.

Now that your nickname has been created, you are ready to connect to an IRC server. An IRC server manages the tasks associated with IRC such as receiving messages and forwarding them to the the appropriate users. The official IRC server for nV News is FreeNode. Clicking on the Servers option in the left window brings up the following screen.

The drop down selection lists were used to populate FreeNode as the IRC Network and Freenode: Random server as the IRC Server. If you would like to define a specific FreeNode server to mIRC, a listing can be found here.
JOINING A CHANNEL
After connecting to an IRC server, you will be presented with a list of favorite channels. To join the nV News channel, enter #nvnews as the channel name and click the Join command button.

The chat window, which allows you to communicate with other people, will appear after joining the #nvnews channel.

After becoming proficient with mIRC, you might want to try using some advanced features like entering commands directly in the chat window.
