NVNEWS IRC INFORMATION

Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a service that allows people from all over the world to participate in real-time discussions over the Internet. nV News invites you to join their IRC channel to discuss a variety of topics such as NVIDIA, graphics cards, computer hardware, and games. We also try to lend a helping hand when it comes to solving computer related problems. Or maybe you want to drop by for some lively off-topic conversation.

A client program is necessary in order to use IRC. The most popular IRC client program for the Windows operating system is mIRC. Links to IRC clients for the Linux and Macintosh operating systems can be found here. If you are a first-time user of mIRC, be sure to check out this page.

CONNECTING TO AN IRC SERVER

Before connecting to an IRC server with mIRC for the first time, you will need to create a Nickname, which will be your identity. For example, GenericBrand was entered as the Nickname for Mike Chambers, which is shown in the following screenshot.

An IRC server manages the tasks associated with IRC such as receiving messages and forwarding them to the the appropriate users. The official IRC server for nV News is FreeNode. Clicking on the Servers option in the left window brings up the following screen.
