Soldier of Fortune Benchmarks
Next up is the popular first person shooter Soldier of Fortune which is based on a modified Quake 2 graphics engine and retrofitted with Raven's Ghoul rendering system. In addition to providing over 500 animation sequences for a variety of models, Ghoul also allows the developer to specify and animate lighting of each model. Ghould takes advantage of the GeForce's hardware lighting capabilities, thereby increasing rendering performance and allowing more lights to be used to represent the world.
Performance in Soldier of Fortune on the GeForce2 GTS begins to differentiate itself from the GeForce 256 DDR at resolutions of 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, especially in 32-bit color. Being a big fan of the game myself, I've been playing Soldier of Fortune at a resolution of 1280x960 in 32-bit color using the highest texture setting enabled.
These benchmark results are based on my own demo (96K) from level ARM1 with sound disabled (s_nosound "1") using default graphics settings. Although I didn't provide any high quality Soldier of Fortune benchmarks, moving to the highest quality graphics settings resulted in no visible loss in performance from the default settings on the GeForce2 GTS.
