OTHER GAMEPLAY
I'm coming down to the wire and had to cut back on this section for now. Rounding out the gameplay tests in this review are Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights for the RPG genre, RC Cars for simulations, and Command and Conquer Generals for strategy. The command line variable -nofpslimit must be added to unlock the frame rate cap in C&C Generals.
Results with AA and AF disabled.
Other Gameplay Results - No AA - No AF
Evidently there must be a performance issue with the demo of Neverwinter Nights and the Radeon 9800 Pro. Hopefully the full version of the game provides performance enhancments. The creature shadow detail setting had a significant affect on the Radeon 9800 Pro and when set to the minimum the results increased to 43/36.
And with 4X AA and 8X AF.
Other Gameplay Results - 4X AA - 8X AF
Morrowind performance was slighty better on the Radeon 9800 Pro although real-time shadows were disabled.
And a few screenshots that can be used to compare image quality. The images from Morrowind were taken from the same position.
Again, the quality of antialaising in Morrowind is better on the Radeon 9800 Pro, but is less noticable since 4X AA is enabled at a resoluition of 1600x1200.
