Asaka SATA-EX-BLUV Cable Adapter - Page 1 of 1

The Akasa Corporation has once again proved that stepping away from the mainstream is worth the risk. We all know that there are interesting novelty ideas that seem exciting at first, but eventually slide into the desk drawers. However, the SATA-EX-BLUV Cable Adapter for SATA hard disks will never see the inside of my desk drawer. The Cable Adapter makes it possible to connect any external SATA drive and the required power directly to your motherboard, all through a brushed aluminum front panel or the optional PC backplate.

PACKAGE CONTENTS

  • SATA data extension cable

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION

The SATA-EX-BLUV occupies a 3.5" front bay and connects to the onboard SATA and PSU power with standard plugs. The front panel is very sleek and will blend smoothly with any aluminum case. Also, the wires attached to the inside of the panel have a soft blue color so they don't create any visual clutter. Using the included back plate adds yet another dimension the Cable Adapter. If you have no available drive bays, you can just unscrew the SATA connectors from the front panel and apply it to the back plate. This option allows you to still connect an external drive using the SATA-EX-BLUV Cable Adapter.

Front Panel

When I received the Akasa Cable Adapter, I didn't know what to make of it. Never before had I seen a computer with a SATA port on the front of the case. Initially, it may seem like an unusual idea, but there has never before been a more refreshing piece of hardware inside my case. Swapping hard drives is very tedious, especially if your PC is tucked into your computer desk. Having the Cable Adapter lets you add and remove hard drives with ease. It’s as simple as shutting off the box, and then just plugging in the SATA drive. That's it. You will no longer have to crawl under your desk or unplug the multitude of wires hanging from the back of your computer.

CONCLUSION

The Akasa SATA-EX-BLUV Cable Adapter is a great product because this connector will make everything involving SATA drives that much easier. Akasa has proven once again that ideas that may first seem far fetched are not always a lost cause, and innovations can be applied to all facets of technology. A thank you goes out to Akasa and to 3dcool for providing the review sample.
