BFG Sniper Boomslang 2100 Review - Page 2 Of 3

PACKAGING

Unlike the Razer Boomslang 1000 and 2000, which were housed in a tin can, the Sniper Boomslang 2100 mouse comes in a sleek black and green box, which is shown below.

Along with the mouse is an 8-foot cord, a driver CD, an installation guide, and a USB to PS/2 adapter.

And the back of the box.

Which contains the following information.

The Sniper Boomslang 2100

Boomslang is recognized the world over by professional gamers as "The Mouse of Choice". At 2100 dpi, this incarnation by BFG Technologies is the fastest, most accurate mouse available and the only true gaming mouse designed from the bottom up to do one thing – help you win games. When you demand quick twitch reflexes and killer precision in your gaming experience, don’t settle for anything less than the Sniper Boomslang 2100.

Ambidextrous Ergo-Design

The playing field is now level for right and left-handed players. The Sniper Boomslang is symmetrical, and its evenhanded design lets you configure either thumb button and customize the remaining buttons. Back in the day, right-handed players had the advantage; not anymore.

Lower, Wider Profile

The Sniper Boomslang has been designed to reduce fatigue and stress from intense mouse usage. This lower profile all but removes the stress placed on the wrist by other higher-profile designs. Also, because of its ultra-high resolution, the Sniper Boomslang 2100 will require less movement than any other mouse you have ever experienced.

Scroll Wheel

The increased pulses per revolution (PPR) makes for killer responsiveness - and we mean killer. Sniper Boomslang 2100 covers ground faster and more precisely than standard mice.

On-The-Fly-Sensitivity

Hold the thumb button down and scroll the wheel during a game to pop up a scale on screen to change sensitivity on-the-fly. Adjust instantly for different situations, games, opponents.

5 Programmable Non-Slip Buttons

The rubberized surface prevents finger slippage, making it easier to be cool under pressure.

6 MIPS

Sniper Boomslang 2100 operates at a blazing 6 mips (millions of instructions per second) while the traditional mouse chugs along at about 1.4 mips.

8' Cord

Much longer than most, meaning you won't feel tied down, constrained, limited. Let's say it's a new level of peripheral freedom.

APPEARANCE

Taking a closer look at the BFG Sniper Boomslang 2100 mouse reveals a matte black finish with a rubberized surface on the bottom half of the mouse where the palm rests. With the Sniper Boomslang 2100 catering to both left and right handed use, the design lacks the ergonomic features that give competing mice a natural feel.

The Sniper Boomslang 2100 has a lower and wider profile than my Logitech Optical Mouse. This design is intended to reduce fatigue and stress from prolonged and intense use.

It's also considerably larger than the Logitech Optical Mouse. After three weeks of use, I haven't experienced any problems with my wrist following numerous marathon sessions with Halo, Max Payne 2, Call of Duty, and Unreal 2. I didn't have any wrist problems with the Logitech Optical Mouse either.

The BFG Sniper Boomslang 2100 contains five buttons. There are left and right click buttons, a scroll wheel button, and two buttons on either side of the mouse, one of which is assigned as the "thumb" button. The left and right click buttons are oversized and account for half of the length of the mouse.

There are buttons on either side of the BFG Sniper Boomslang 2100, both of which are rubber-based, as is the scroll button.

The bottom of the mouse shows the location of the trackball housing. The location of the ball is intended to provide optimum feel and feedback during movement. The rubber glide pads are improved over earlier models and are made of a material that provides less resistance during movement. The BFG Sniper Boomslang 2100 is heavier than the Logitech Optical Mouse and takes a similar amount of effort to move across the mousepad as the Logitech Optical Mouse.
