Performance in the retail version of Unreal Tournament 2003 was measured by using the standard flyby demo from the DM-Antalus map and a custom made botmatch demo from the Bonus Pack DM-Icetomb map.
Unreal Tournament 2003
The following results are from the DM-Antalus Flyby demo.
Unreal Tournament 2003 Performance
Less graphics intensive games provide us with a greater selection of resolutions and image quality enhancing features to choose from. In the DM-Antalus flyby demo, the Apogee AA5700U offers good performance at all AA/AF settings at 800x600 and 1024x768 and with no AA and no AF at 1280x1024.
However, botmatch demos tend to be indicative of gameplay performance and therefore we make use of Tim Murray's custom botmatch demo from the DM-Icetomb map. This demo was designed to represent a worst case scenario for Unreal Tournament 2003 performance.
Unreal Tournament 2003 Performance
The DM-Icetomb map is part of Epic's first Bonus Pack and runs for approximately three minutes. The floor and walls are comprised of blocks of ice, which are constructed using a larger number of polygons than flat surfaces. This increases the load on the graphics processor due to the increased transformations that are needed to render a larger number of polygons.
