eVGA e-GeForce 6800GT Review - Page 4 of 6

FAR CRY

Far Cry Demo Benchmarking Results

Running Microsoft XP with SP-2, DX9.0c,  Far Cry 1.2 patch, and the new 6800 series of graphic cards has opened up this game for NVIDIA.  Previously, my 9800Pro received the nod when playing this game.  The 5700 Ultra was satisfactorily playable as was the 5900 Ultra and 5950 Ultra but they could not match the 9800Pro overall.  eVGA packages the full version of the game with 6800GT, so if that is any indication, good things should be in store for those considering the eVGA 6800GT.

The ATI X800Pro was used for performance comparison.  Clock frequencies for the X800Pro were maintained at default settings of 475/450 (900MHz effective) while the eVGA 6800GT recorded results was obtained with both default clocks of 350/1.0 and overclocked frequencies of 410/1.1.

Benchmarking consisted of recorded demos from four maps in the game.  The demos run were Regulator, Research, Training, and the Volcano maps.  I elected to use only resolution settings of 1024x768 and 1600x1200 paired with antialiasing (AA) and anisotropic filtering (AF) settings of No AA/AF, 4x AA / 8x AF, and 4x AA / 16x AF.  All in-game settings were set at 'Very High,' texture filter quality was set to trilinear, and vertical sync was turned off.  Specific combinations and results are identified in the applicable tables.

With the addition of XP service pack 2, DX9.0c, along with Far Cry's 1.2 patch this game totally rocks with the eVGA 6800GT.  NVIDIA has developed and eVGA has provided a card that insures the awesome look and feel of this game.  Game play proved equally fast, responsive, and stable at all settings that I tried.  The X800Pro put up some good numbers and provides considerable performance increase over the R300 series of ATI cards.
