After all the reviews I've done and for all the times I've fired this game up, I still have yet to come anywhere close to beating it. I can't count the number of times I've told myself to just suck it up and play through the terror, but I can never seem to do it. That being said, I can however, count the awesome framerates the 8800s posted in SLI. The in-game benchmark was used for all tests and apart from adjusting the resolution, the settings remained how the engine put them.
F.E.A.R. Results
The results were very pleasing. These cards tore through FEAR, even with the in-game settings completely maxed out at 2560x1600. The minimum framerate was 21FPS but it got up to a 138 maximum and stayed at a very playable 34FPS average. This was definitely the sign I was looking for that these cards were going to bring high-definition gaming to a completely new level. The game's CPU dependency really comes into play when looking at the scores at 1920x1200. The minimum and average framerates, apart from at maximum settings, are pretty close.
Next, I took a look at a number of Source-powered games and mods to see how the cards fared in VALVe's pride and joy.
