eVGA e-GeForce2 Ultra Review

CPU Comparison - Intel P3 vs. Gen-X Tech AXIA Athlon

Direct3D Performance

The Test Systems

The P3 based system:

  • Pentium 3 550E @719MHz

  • 256 Mb of Cas 2 RAM

  • Abit BE6-II Motherboard

  • eVGA e-GeForce2 Ultra

  • Official Detonator Drivers version 6.50

  • SB Live X-Gamer (High Quality Sound enabled)

  • 20 GB Quantum LM with ATA/66

  • Windows ME

  • DirectX 8.0a

The Athlon based system:

  • AMD 1GHz AXIA Athlon @1575MHz - Gen-X Tech

  • 256Mb of Cas 2 RAM

  • ASUS A7V133 Motherboard

  • eVGA e-GeForce2 Ultra

  • Official Detonator Drivers version 6.50

  • SB Live X-Gamer (High Quality Sound enabled)

  • 20 GB Quantum LM with ATA/66

  • Windows ME

  • DirectX 8.0a

I chose to leave the sound on for the benchmark results so that realistic scores are provided from the barrage of tests.

3DMark2000

3DMark2000 has become the de-facto standard of Direct3D benchmarking programs or games. It sports a wide variety of tests to truly test all aspects of your system.

3DMark 32 bit Performance

Increase of Performance @ 32 bits

3DMark 16 bit Performance

Increase of Performance @ 16 bits

The percentage of the increase of performance attained by the Athlon over the P3 diminishes as the resolution increases because the video card becomes the limiting factor which levels the playing field. We see that the GeForce2 Ultra just isn't fast enough to keep up with what the 1575MHz Athlon can dish out. This CPU is FAST!!!

Evolva

Evolva 32 bit performance

Evolva 16 bit performance

Same story here; the Ultra just can't keep up, and caps the performance of the 1.5 GHz Athlon at numbers attained by the P3 system.
