QUAKE 3

And now for something completely different...no, it's not Monty Python's first feature film...just more Quake 3 benchmarks for you to pour over.

Now keep in mind that all Quake 3 timedemos are not created equal (or most benchmarks in general for that matter). The resulting FPS are relative to each timedemo. Some timedemos occur primarily in outdoor settings while others are primarily inside, different textures, amount of sky showing, etc, etc, etc. In other words, when you see 300 FPS for Quake 3 in some magazine or online review do you know what map/timedemo was used? What the settings were? Number of bots, if any?

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2003 DEMO - VERSION 2206

This will probably be the next Quake 3 as far as benchmarking popularity goes. Since I'm sure the majority of you are quite familiar with this game and have seen hundreds of benchmarks already, I'll just cut to the chase.

I should note that all benchmarks were run using UT2K3Bench from BensCustomCases.com. The "MaxDetail.ini" and "MaxDetailUser.ini" files were used for all tests. Check it out if you haven't already, very nice program.

Check out that spike of 577 FPS! I tried re-running this a number of times but continued to get numbers in that neighborhood. So, the1024 No AA, No AF score is admittedly a bit skewed (most likely) but I thought it was kind of neat to see if nothing else.

Not much to say here, I was impressed with everything overall. Although 1600 4X AA,AF is bit slow.

The botmatch tests are much more indicative of actual game play than the flybys. I was really impressed with these when comparing them to the 2X Antialiasing benchmarks for the same map (although benched with FRAPS and not UT2K3Bench in Mike's Game Play Testing article.)

The results for Citadel were almost identical to Antalus so I was equally impressed here. There was a notable problem with 1600x1200 4X AA, 4X AF though. I could not get that benchmark to complete (received UT2003 bug report error each time about 1/2 way through) with the 43.00 Detonator drivers. However, it did run just fine with the 41.09 Detonator drivers as well as the 42.82 drivers so this is not related to the Gainward card but rather the 43.00 drivers.
