NVIDIA GeForce 256 Review

Overclocking

Benchmark Settings:

  • Quake 3 - High Quality
Comments:

Although I didn't spend as much time analyzing the overclockability of the GeForce 256 compared to the Viper V770 Ultra, the results were similar.  You can expect to gain a 5-15% increase in performance depending on how high you overclock and the graphics settings used in the particular game being benchmarked.

The following charts show the results of overclocking the GeForce 256 and the effect on Quake 3's performance:
  • Red bar - overclocked to 140MHz core/190MHz memory
  • Yellow bar - overclocked to 130MHz/180MHz
  • Green bar- default clock speeds of 120MHz/166MHz
I may have been able to overclock higher than 140MHz/190MHz, but I didn't want to risk damaging the card.  In other words, I chickened out :)
