Inno3D GeForce FX 5700 Ultra GDDR3 Review - Page 1 of 5

INTRODUCTION

InnoVISION Multimedia, or Inno3D, is one of a few NVIDIA based add-in manufacturers that is offering a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra graphics card with specialized GDDR3 memory. The GeForce FX 5700 Ultra with GDDR3 is typically outfitted with 128MB of Samsung 2.0ns memory modules, which are rated to operate at frequencies up to 500MHz.

Inno3D set the memory frequency on their Tornado GeForce FX 5700 Ultra at 475MHz (950MHz effective), which is 50MHz higher than the DDR2 memory that ships with the standard GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. With a 128-bit memory bus, the slight bandwidth advantage is offset by the increased access latencies that are associated with GDDR3 memory.

Introduced in October of 2003, the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra was the first retail product to offer GDDR3 memory. The transition to GDDR3 memory is actively underway as NVIDIA recently announced it will be utilized in the next-generation GeForce 6 series.

PRODUCT FEATURES

The GeForce FX 5700 Ultra is presently categorized at the low-end of NVIDIA's performance models. However, with the record breaking performance of the GeForce 6 Series, the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra will likely be re-categorized as a low mid-range or upper low-range part.
