MSI is excited about the potential that their NX6800-TD128E video card offers
when paired in an SLI system. They claim that it outperforms a single 6800 Ultra
while costing less. As of this writing, the NX6800-TD128E will only set you back
around $225. Don't let these 6800s fool you; the large, solid copper cooler that
MSI added to these makes for some serious overclocking.
If you check out the
specifications listed on the MSI website, you'll see
that they state the NX6800-TD128E is built on the IBM 0.13 micron process
technology (NV41). I've got some good news, that is a typo. In fact, the
NX6800-TD128E is built on the TSMC 0.11 micron process technology (NV42) as one
would expect. This results in manufacturing cost savings over the NV41, default
core clock of 325MHz, and impressive overclocking headroom as you'll soon see.
The NV42 is a native PCI-Express GPU and has no BR2 bridge chip. The MSI
NX6800-TD128E also does not have any external power connector.
