Serious Sam 2 is without a doubt the single most ridiculous game I have ever played. Football-bomb throwing enemies, rabid dogs, and devils on tank treads.
The list of warped enemies goes on and on...
Besides the outlandish foes, the weapons themselves are insane and are done so as to allow for the absolutely ridiculous non-stop action. To top it off, with all the on-screen enemies, huge outdoor expanses, and a pretty impressive particle and lighting system, mean that this game is a bonafide resource HOG.
I was very much looking forward to bringing this new system to its knees at the hands of Serious Sam 2. I ran the Greendale demo and use Fraps to benchmark at 1600x1200 with all the settings maxed, AA off and HDR on and vice versa (except the game would never allow an AA level above "Medium"). I ran the same tests at 1280x960.
Serious Sam 2 Performance
The results were surprising to me, as HDR actually had more of a performance hit than AA, which I believe may be caused by the bug that refused to allow AA to be set to "High." After hitting "Apply," the AA level would always reset back to medium. Forcing AA in the driver had no effect. As it stands though, Serious Sam 2 ran smooth regardless of the resolution and HDR/AA combination.
