MSI P6N SLI Platinum Motherboard Review - Page 5 of 10

INSTALLATION

The optional fan, with shroud, included in the package fit snugly and secure with the two thumbs screws provided. This additional cooling should help stability when overclocking.

Optional Northbridge Heatsink Fan

Initially this was the only area of concern for clearance. Space is tight but more than adequate with the AC Freezer 7 Pro installed on the CPU socket.

NB HSF/CPU HSF Clearance

All clearances proved to be more than adequate. The SATA ports are easily accessed as is the memory in the DIMM slots. In this installation the battery's location above the SATA ports and directly under the 7950 GX2 will be a problem. With a single PCB video card, or two such cards in SLI, access is much less a problem.

MSI P6N SLI Platinum Installation

The P5N-E SLI nForce 650i with noted physical differences in the installed X-FI sound card, the replaced NB cooling solution of the HR-05-SLI heatsink, and the added small blue aluminum heatsink on the southbridge.
