XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Review - Page 6 of 6

PERFORMANCE AT 2560x1600 - 4X AA

Benchmark results with 4x AA under Windows XP appear below. In most cases, the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is able to compete with the GeForce 8800 GTX when 4x AA is enabled.

However, performance begins to fall behind when additional features such as supersampling transparency antialiasing (Far Cry, Dark Messiah), higher quality textures (Dark Messiah), and High Dynamic Range (Oblivion) are combined. Note that there will be less of a performance penalty at resolutions lower than 2560x1600.

Windows XP Performance

CONCLUSION

The XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is a solid implementation of NVIDIA's reference design and competes with the much higher priced GeForce 8800 GTX. However, the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB faces stiff competition from the GeForce 8800 GT, which can pose a difficult decision in choosing one model over the other.

The added performance of the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB over the GeForce 8800 GT is not enough to warrant the additional expense, but the dual-slot cooling solution could be a deciding factor. Other factors will include rebates, bundle, accessories, and of course availability.
