XFX GeForceFX 5950 Ultra - Page 4 of 6

GAMEPLAY

CALL OF DUTY
A very popular WWII first person shooter CoD blends elements of action, realism, sound, and excellent graphics to make its popularity justified. Add very good AI performance and you arguably have one of the best games available in this genre.

Call of Duty: Dawnville Map

Two custom timedemos (Mike's Dawnville and POW Camp maps) were used to bench this game. Dawnville timedemo represents general results that should be expected in CoD while the POW Camp timedemo adds considerably more stress on the card's capabilities. All results are recorded as an average of frames per second (FPS).

Call of Duty: Dawnville Map

The Dawnville demo was the first released demo of this game and was a major hit. It is one of the first maps included in the game with excellent graphics and a frenzy of action. This combination makes for a good custom timedemo in testing a card's capabilities in handling the graphical demands of this game.

Call of Duty: POW Camp Map

The POW Camp timedemo is taken from late in the American campaign and adds a little more stress on the card performance-wise.

Call of Duty: POW Map Results

The XFX FX5950 Ultra barely broke a sweat in this game rendering graphics superbly while exhibiting excellent speed. The card produced consistently high frame rates until running 8xAA/8xAF at the lower resolutions and when AA was activated at the highest resolution (1600x1200).

I did run several tests using 8xAA with 2xAF and found performance to be adequate for consistent playability. These settings produced a playable 47 FPS at a resolution of 1024x768 with all in-game settings set at their highest. Overclocking (550/1000) resulted in an average of 58 FPS (or better than a 10% increase in performance) that provided excellent responsiveness and smooth gameplay.

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2003

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2003

This benchmark has been used in one form or other by most reviewers over the past year. For the purpose of providing you a comparison with the many reviews of the FX5950 Ultra I decided to use it one more time. The tables below are broken up into the Asbestos and Anatalus Botmatches and Flybys. Each table represents the frames per second average at the indicated resolution 1024x768, 1280x1024, or 1600x1200. The benches were run with no antialiasing (AA), 2x AA, 4x AA, and either no anisotropic filtering (AF) or set at 8x.

Unreal Tournament 2003 Flyby Results

For those who prefer to run high resolutions with a lot of FPS speed the no AA or AF at 1600x1200 is for you. For the rest of us who enjoy playing UT2003 with varying AA/AF settings we can just pick and choose as this card can handle them all with ease. Actual gameplay was fast and extremely smooth. Needless to say, I was impressed with the performance in this game.
