Hi,

I installed the nvidia Driver as described in the SuSE 8.2 manual and on the Nvidia Linux Drivers download page. After installing, the driver wants me to activate the 3d acceleration in Sax2. When I do that, it ends up with: no screens found

Without the nvidia driver (disabling the acceleration in sax2) everything works beautifully.

Heres my XF86Config, the XFREE86.0.log is attached to this post:

The hardware is a Toshiba S1900 Notebook with a Geforce4 440 Go, the OS is the new SuSE 8.2 Professional.

Any suggestions someone?

Is this the XF86Config file you used when you tried to use the "nvidia" driver? If so, you'll need to edit it to load the "nvidia" driver instead of the "nv" driver.

Your XFree86.0.log file doesn't seem to have made it...

Sorry. Of course the Section looks like:

Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce4 440 Go"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
#Option "CrtcNumber" "1"
#Option "CrtcNumber" "0"
Screen 0
Option "Rotate" "off"
VendorName "NVidia"
EndSection

Do you have an idea, or should I post the same files again with the changes hoping that there is a difference?

Regards,
Felix-Gabriel

I'm more interested in the failing XFree86.0.log file.

(EE) NVIDIA(0): No modes remaining for display device DFP-0
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting **This is the problem - it looks like your panel's EDID is reporting a range that might be incorrect. You should find the correct hsync and vrefresh values for your panel and plug them in. You'll probably also need to use the Option "IgnoreEDID" "1"XF86Config option, but i'd make doubly sure that the values you find for the panel are correct before using IgnoreEDID.

Hi,

have a look at my post:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&postid=100905#post100905
try out the NvAGP setting (see driver README for details)

Andy:
my problem looked like a problem with the DFP/laptop LCD and the EDID settings, but it had nothing to do with it in the end! Maybe something for a FAQ/Readme

KermitTheFragNL: In your case, changing the AGP settings helped. In this case, the EDID is returning some values that seem to be too low, as no modes are validated.

Andy, you were right. I tried the Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" and it seems to work.

Thank you very much for your support.
