I'm about to purchase an Intel CPU (yes...Hell did just get a little chillier...:p), and I was wondering if anyone knew if there are any price cuts over the horizon. It wil determine if I go quad or dual....

I hope not, I'm still trying to get a fair price for my E6600 after replacing it with a Q6600. :D :p

January = mainstream 45nm, there will be price-cuts before and after to get rid of current stock for sure. If not officially by Intel then by e-tailers.

I just pulled the trigger on a Q6600 from newegg. I've been watching the price for some time and it really hasn't moved much. Being that the next line of CPUs won't hit the market till early 08 (except for the highend that might see the end of this year), I don't expect much of a price change for the middle lineup.

I already have an EVGA 680i that I'm using with my E6400. I plan to retain the mobo for the Q6600. I did buy this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130082) mobo to house the E6400 that I will be upgrading my girls' PC with. I had to find one that can handle 4 PATA devices as my girls' PC still used PATA HDDs.

Doc, if you're going Intel, then go with a P35 unless you want SLI.

What happened to those ATI cards you had?

Just had the 1 2900XT. Tired of the poor Dx10 performance and AA hit that it takes with a # of games.

In some games it performs well, but Nvidia is more consistent across the board.
