so...its been awhile since i've upgraded/built a new computer...i was keeping up with new stuff for a while but at this point i'm not really sure what's great out there...

so if i wanted to base a system around a Q6600 what else should i get....(ie: best memory, at least 2GB, best MB, video card (or should i wait for the next one) etc....)

and should i be looking at something else other than a Q6600 or is that still a damn good choice...

Q6600 is a great choice still. For the motherboard, intel's x38 chipset, but probably one with ddr2 slots as ddr3 is still greatly overpriced. For ram, you can get 2x2GB of DDR2 1000 for a little under $200. The latency isnt great at 5-5-5-15 but the 2x2 config at that speed cant be beat for the price. For the video card, I'd go w/ a $499 8800GTX and oc it. If you want the absolute fastest card, go for a factory oc'ed 8800 Ultra (~$700). No one knows for sure when nvidia's next high end card will be released, probably more than a few months away.

The Quad6600 is a real good choice and it overclocks great.I had good luck with my Evga 680i SLI (A1) but I needed one that would do SLI.The other chipsets like the 35 and 38 are getting good results.I might wait on the video card and see what nvida new one perform like ,but if you need one now then the Evga 8800GTX would be the way to go.
