This is from gamespot:

Report: Japanese publishers doubt Wii longevity (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6180832.html)

Basically, some are starting to doubt it, no big deal so far. But it is interesting to hear these talks this early on.

I can understand where they are coming from. So far almost everyone who has jumped on board is doing so to grab what is leftover from the Nintendo lineup. Even in that, most companies are not writing anything particularly new or exciting. Does the Wii have the ability to last a long time? Maybe, however this Christmas will still be a big seller for the console.. That one trick pony is still riding high in the saddle.

That combined with the fact that many Wii purchasers are more "casual" gamers, means that the real money to be made by developers is still with the 360/PS3

However, although the combined user base of the ps3/360 is greater, you also have to take into consideration that generally it takes a lot less money to develop a game for the wii, hence more profits.

True...true. Out of all my wii games, the majority are first party. The only decent ones I have which aren't made by nintendo are Raving Rabbids and Carnival Games (although most don't like this one). All of the upcoming games on my to buy list are also made by nintendo.

Provided the game sales, and that was the point the article tried to make. Even though the Wii has been selling incredibly well for the past year, 3rd party titles are selling at the same rate as they did at launch...miserably. That's why developers are "scared" of the console, because so far it looks like Wii-Sports and Nintendo characters are the only things that will sell.

That's because all the third party titles are bull**** games. Produce a decent third party title, and it will sell just fine on the wii.

Developers aren't "scared" of the Wii. It has the largest install base of any console (I believe it recently surpassed the 360). And the PS3 sales are in the toilet so if you combine the 360 with the PS3 units it isn't that much more. And it is not easy to port a 360 game to the PS3. It took them a year to port Oblivion over. They have similar input devices and graphical horsepower, so a conversion is possible, unlike the Wii where it has to be completely redesigned, but the architecture between the two is very different and any game will take a while to port.

****ing hell, enough of the fanboy wars. No one has to post negative news about each console equally. There's too much of this fanboyism going around in gaming forums but I tend to see it least here... oh, for the love of fluff, please try and keep it that way.

The popularity of traditional game consoles is on decline in Japan: portable entertainment gear is the new buzz over there, as the stellar sales of DS prove

I'm hoping Nintendo replaces the current Wii with a better one in 2010 that has superior visuals to Xbox 360 and PS3. not just HD, but much better graphics (geometry, lighting, shaders, etc) that would still look better on SD than X360/PS3 on HD. a Wii HD with at least 8800 Ultra graphics capability. I have a feeling the Wii "fad" is going to wear off in 2008.

I find it very unlikely that the Wii will have a graphics upgrade in it's lifetime.

same. Wii is a freakin Pokemon. I'm contemplating smashing mine in to many pieces in some unique way just for the hell of it. Then post it on YouTube.

Such a crappy console.

Mine has gone untouched upon beating Metroid.
