Sorry it didn't work. I know how you feel. Nero 7 refused to work for me when I was released. I went back to 6 until a few more 7 builds had been released.
As to your side note. I dunno. I have noticed the same thing, but I go through the whole forum either way. :D

LOL I goofed on the name. It's CDBurnerXP. http://cdburnerxp.se/
Doesn't look like it's Vista ready yet.
I just downloaded this yesterday and uninstalled Nero 7.
I won't deny that I've had more than one "unsavory" copy of Nero over the years. I've been trying to go 100% legit with my software (mostly because I'll need to be familiar with programs I can legally install on other people's systems) and rather than pay out the ass for Nero, I just went with a free solution.
I haven't burned anything with it yet but it installed and seems to run fine in Vista x64. Its extremely simple. I rarely even burn CDs, and I never (ever) do anything elaborate with them, so this will be perfect.
If I ever need to burn any special image formats I'll just use IMGburn.

Nero is like a Microsoft OS. When it's first released, many people have problems with it and most just wait for the first service pack before upgrading.

I tried Nero 8 last week and I bought it on friday. Interface is cleaner, less bloated than 7. I like it a lot. Never had problems with any Nero version, but the interface of version 7 was horrible.

Its a good piece of software - when you really need it. I suppose theres three other programs you can get and do the same thing but its what you get with Nero that makes it so good - plenty of options and room to do stuff. The only complaints with it, is this damned problem. I can burn stuff just can't start, StartSmart. I never used it much anyway but the idea of buying software is to usually have it work 100%, not half ass.

I really like this CDBurnerXP. It's fast, easy, and doesn't use much resources. It can erase an RW in under a minute. Oh yeah, it DOES support HDDVD/Blu-RAY. It just doesnt support Vista...yet. I will be keeping this handy lil program close by.

Hi from England, sorry to hear you've been having problems with Nero 8 startsmart. However, the error message you are getting has nothing to do with Nero 8 installation really. It's caused by a faulty installation of the MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Service) on the system. It can be resolved by installing MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 and Security Update (KB936181).
MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Service) is a complete replacement of MSXML 4.0 and MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Hi Libertysyclone,
I'm glad to be of help mate. Quite why Nero 8 doesn't like the Microsoft XML Core Service & throws up this error I'm 100% sure - but if my fix worked for you then who cares!
As for the hot hooker, yes please! Only wish I could get over there! :captnkill:
Cheers again,
Steve.
