View Full Version : Superbowl in London??
I can't believe they would even think about doing something like this. I'll be screaming bloody murder if it actually happens. First they step all over the Thanksgiving day football tradition by making the Packers - Cowboys game an NFL channel only game and now they want to move the biggest game of the year to another country?? :thumbdwn:

Nevermind...just seen it on yahoo. If they do that, they will lose their American audience for sure.
I don't have NFL network!!!! ARGH!!! Somehow I need to watch the Packers and Cowboys game. At least I have tickets to go to the Packers and Panthers game.

Maybe not the best idea but it would be great for the sport and its reputation and fan base in Europe.

I'll be watching from my television anyway, so I could care less where they decide to play.

I'm amazed that you know about the existence of rugby and that you can imagine that there are some people that think rugby is a better game.

They sold 60k tickets in minutes for wembley stadium. There is defintely a harcore contingent of NFL fans here. I know I'd go if I had the cash. Both it and basketball have the potential to be popular with the younger middle class crowd who are sick of the working class hooliganism association with soccer/football.

But I have news for you Brits. South Africa is going to win!
If it is in England, I wonder what time the game will be played at?? It's always been a 5:30ish CST kick off time.... that would be like midnight in England, or if they keep that time in England that would leave us watching the game at like 11 in the morning. Either way this has upset American fans written all over it.

Its a bit of kick in the teeth for their main audience. I'm all for sports spreading out to improve their popularity. As sytaylor said they've got an NFL fixture at Wembley this season already and it sold out very quickly, but certain things shouldn't change and I think its a step too far to have the Superbowl here.
If they ever tried to move the FA Cup Final to another country, I would be livid. Its an English institution with a lot of tradition and history to it. I think the FA Cup is the whole reason they were able to re-build Wembley in the first place rather than move the national stadium to somewhere more central in England.

1. Dallas is playing the Jets on Thanksgiving...its on CBS...
2. Green Bay is playing the Lions (the other team that plays every Thanksgiving)...its on FOX....
edit: this thread is about next season i guess???? because the superbowl this season is in Arizona....and in '09 its in tampa....i must be missing something....
edit 2: ahhh....i see news about them considering holding a future superbowl over there...
but what's this about the Thanksgiving games being on NFL network only?
I have always wanted to go to an American Football game. I was going to go to the dolphins game in Wembly but tickets for that sold out pretty quickly.

I had the dates wrong, but either way, the Dallas - Packers game is apparently NFL Network only

So it's like a slow paced rugby game with shoulder pads, helmets and tampons right?

Don't forget that to protect their tampon orifices they have to wear full kevlar body armour. :D
