I just upgraded my Dell Inspiron 8100 notebook to RedHat 9 from RedHat 7.2. I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver (1.0-4349) and ran the installer to install the driver, and made the suggested modifications in XF86Config. My notebook supports 1600x1200 and I have a Geforce 2 go 32 MB video card. But I can't get the 1600x1200 resolution and the 24bit color depth. Below is my XF86Config file and attached is the log file following startx -- -logverbose 5.

Please help.

Pal.

P.S. With Redhat 7.2 and NVIDIA 1.0-2314 driver I could get 1600x1200 resolution with 24 bit clor depth.

Well, since the relevant message says "not using mode 1600x1200: hrefresh out of range", the problem is that your horizontal sync (aka horizontal refresh) rate is outside either the user-specified range, or the EDID-specified range if that's smaller.

My guess is that you haven't properly configured your HorizSync line in the Monitor section. It shouldn't have to go anywhere near 29 on the low end, though, so where the heck did that come from? Also, what on earth is with your VertRefresh minimum doing at 0?

Find out the maximum rates your monitor can use, and put them into the config file.
