AMD had mixed Q3, sales go up, operating cost down but still lose money, AMD reports net loss of $396 million, much worse than analysts predicted.

It not what AMD hoped Q3 to be break even to make first profit in a year, after 4 bad quarters AMD had lost $2,181 million in 1 whole year, yeah $2.18bn that a hell alot of money. Just look at Intel, they made very cool net profit of $1.8bn in Q3 that nearly as much money Intel can make in 1 quarter which AMD lost in 4 quarters! :o

How much money left in cash flow and the total debt level in Q3 is remain to be seen, AMD had said they hope to returning to profitablity in Q4 2007 or Q1 2008 but AMD been said the same thing about Q3 so they still lose money because of price wars with Intel and Nvidia. If AMD still continue cut less than average selling prices in Q4 2007 and Q1 2008 then they will fail to make a profit, they need to stop doing that, they will need to sell above ASP to make a profit.

In other news, AMD confirmed Fab30 will be shutdown by end of year and the 90nm fab will be retool and reopen as Fab38 at later date. So AMD will left with just 1 fab up and running until Fab38 probably with 45nm up and running.

Look like Phenom will be more expensive than Core 2 Quad.

I just don't see how any company can keep losing money at this rate. We could see something drastic like a buy out or takeover in 08.

After read the SEC filing of Q3 2007 report, AMD now have $5.7bn in debt down from $5.9bn after sold all investments in Spansion Inc for $320m plus $57m commission to paid $263m off the debts so that be just one off then the debt level will mount up again.

There was no mentioned of Cash Flow statement yet.

It's a shame because we really need more than 1 GPU and CPU maker.

yup :(

Where is Cyrix and Matrox? :p
You won't be laughing when 500$ would buy you a mid range video card and you won't find a CPU under 200$.

Yeah so much for Matrox getting into gaming, it failed with the Parhelia Series. Dispiting being the first 256bit bus card raw bandwith alone did not help it. Cyrix was bought out by VIA they do well as their CPU's although around 1.5GHz use less then 10w so can be passivly cooled.

Why is it when a compnay has no competition, they can raise prices like 500 midrange GPU's?

Choice is always better but business shaft people when they don't have a competition to force them to lower prices on stuff that doesn't cost that much to make anyway.,

Even if AMD were to go under, to pay off all their debt their assets(a.k.a. patents) would be sold off. Wouldn't be at all surprising to see nVidia purchase the CPU portion of the company and Intel purchase the GPU portion and, one would think IBM might be in the mix as well. AMD wont die, it'll just morph.

We need Amd AND Intel or prices will soar skyhigh,Intel have always been greedy mofo's.If amd sinks then intel will become like microsoft and we dont want that,so maybe your comment is kinda dumb then???

I feel kind of bad now for going Intel... lol. AMD still makes some solid and nicely priced CPU's... they are just not the best out. I still recommend AMD for the average mid-range gamer for price and performance.
