View Full Version : Motherboard beep codes
Will they sound if the OS locks up due to an error? Or are they strictly boot time?
Mobo in sig, UT3 demo locks hard with a mild overclock and what sounds like ram beep codes start coming out of the speakers? What the....!?
Thanks for replies guys.

when I was overclocking sometimes I would hear a beep when my system would crash or lock up. Could be a warning set in the bios, maybe?

Heat maybe? I always set my systems to sound an alarm if they are getting too hot. All could just be a glitch or random side effect of the lockup. We have a system at work the will random boot with a very low pitch burrrrrr instead of the normal everything is ok beep. It always boots just fine either way.
If it's during games i would surgest you check temps of the CPU. Run the game in a windows with a program that monitors your CPU temp. Might want to try http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
I bet you guys are right about the heat. I'll give that Coretemp a shot. Thanks guys!
EDIT: I has to be the temps. My cores are 10c apart or more at times. I bet I don't have the hsf seated properly.

like every other errorcode

If it's coming from the graphics card you could have 12v supply problem. I've never heard a beep from a PC that's crashing.
Just a thought :o
You guys crack me up.:D
It's identical to the memory error beep code, hence the thread. Very nasally sounding, on the verge of a "boop" :p
Those temps are idle btw. I'll reseat it tonight and check everything again.
EDIT: Just spent 45 minutes lapping and reseating the hsf, same results. I get to shop for a new hsf! :)

Hmmmm, problems with my Enermax Galaxy 620W? weird

I'm leaning towards the hsf myself, on mine. It's got a slight curve I wouldn't be able to get out without a long time at the table.
I think they nailed it with the heat. Speedfan showed the low temp of 34c, that "core temp" showed the hot core I couldn't see before, and it makes sense, especially as I was bumping up the voltage.
beepity boppity boop?
That's it!
What causes that?

Well I have a ZALMAN9700LED and the cooling unit on the GPU is very decent too
I wish I still had my Zalman..either one really. The 9500 was sweet, but the CNPS7700 was no slouch either.
