Will both support the Thermalright Ultra-120?

is it a good idea to use Maximus even if you don't use water cooling?

is it a good idea to use Maximus even if you don't use water cooling? That's what I'm wondering.

Even though only the Special Edition has the water cooling parts, does that mean the non-SE will cool better if you are not using water cooling?

I am planning on getting this RAM: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_reaper_cl3_edition

Since it has its own heatsink, will it fit fine with a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreame in place? The motherboard will be a Maximus Formula or GA-X38-DQ6.

Link fixed.

You said the Thermalright is small?

Isn't it one of the biggest HS around?

One more thing. According on this thread, people were not too happy with their Asus P35 motherboards.

Will the same hold true for the X38 motherboards?

All I know is that the water cooling is optional. Not sure which version, the SE or non-SE, will cool better on air though.

I think common sense can be applied to that question simply by looking at the 2 versions heat sinks :p

I'm returning my Maximus Formula. Board came with the 0402 BIOS, couldn't complete POST if the USB hub from my LCD monitor was hooked up, booted fine without it connected. Flashing to the the last 0901 BIOS took care of the USB boot problem, but BSODs immediately upon loading in Vista or XP.

Couldn't even reformat without getting all sorts of BSOD stop errors, including PFN list corrupt, bad_cool_call, USB error, and even unsupported processor error popped up a few times. Finally gave up, put my old board in, reformated, and everything's working fine again.

Also canceled from QX9650 order. I think I'm just going to wait and see what's gonna happen in the next two months before attempting to upgrade.

QX9770 will be priced at $1399, not really worth the 200Mhz increase in clock speed.

Cool, will you be using it with your Maximus or a x38 DDR3 board? My Maximus Formula acted weird along with all the errors it gave me. If I turn off and on the main power on the surge protector or the PSU then turn on the comptuter, the board would power on for 1 second and then automatically power off for another second and then it would power on again all by itself.
