problem with red hat 9

i ran the nvidia-installer and then i did the changes to the XF86Config and when i rebooted it x server didn't start and my computers hangs. i had to uninstall the drivers (luckily it worked). when i did modrpobe it said can't locate /lib/modules/2.4.20-8BOOT/modules.dep. when i create the folder it says there is an error with the version of the kernel (module nvidia compiled for kernel 2.4.20-8 and actual version is 2.4.20-8BOOT)

Were you running 2.4.20-8 (NOT 2.4.20-8BOOT) when you ran the installer? Can you post a copy of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log?

here's the nvidia log. has it a bug with the ali magic m1647 chip?

Could you perhaps give a copy of the log after an installation attempt, rather than an uninstallation attempt? ;)
