Looks like a cinematic video to me, and not actual game play.

Looks like a cinematic video to me, and not actual game play.

Well, a few friends of mine saw an early build in Germany, and said the character models are easily as good as that, and the textures are designed for 8800Ultras and WAY beyond.

I think they've used some 'artistic license' on the trailer, but it's a good indication of texture levels.

The latest UK PC Gamer has some screen shots, and they look just as good as this.

I'm excited anyway.

the game will look about as close to that as the ut3 game looks to this

There's also a similar game that is coming out in 08. Armed Assault 2.

Actually UT3 is close to that can really see on the demo. It looks that good in my opinion, the back ground anyway. I am sure that shot will be as good as it is in the official game.

While I don't have it with me right now. Anyone with a PC game subscription should be getting this months issue any day now.

They have a large 2-3 page spread regarding FP2 in it.

While I would love to try this game, all the flashpoint games including ARMA, which is not actual flash point is more of a high end sim then a casual FPS game.

I really wish they would offer a couple different modes like fun or hardcore sim.

I don't think it will be a hardcore sim and actually I expect it to be something like COD4 or MOH:A gameplay wise.

Original Flashpoint was hardcore, so what makes you think this time round it will be softcore?

From this months issue of PC gamer:

How will OF2 set it's gameplay apart?

MF: I think it's important to point out that this isn't a Hollywood movie. We're not trying to steer the game away from the simulation aspect. But the reality of warfare is a lot more brutal and visceral than the original game provided, so there's a lot of scope for improving the player in that.

If I can get some scans up I will.

Actually the fact that it's a multiplatform title and due to that it will be likely equal or similar on all platforms incl. "consolized" on the PC. Maybe the PC and console version will be different or there will be settings to make it more sim/arcade, I don't know but it's possible. I know OFP was released on the first Xbox and ArmA2 will be released on the X360 as well (as PC) but I can't imagine a hardcore tactical FPS (like OFP, ArmA on PC) to even be playable much less enjoyable with a controller and basically with a "one shot - one kill" damage system and without auto-aim. So they either have to modify the console version strongly or they will "consolize" the game on all platforms.

Secondly I think that Codemasters is missing an IP/franchise that Ubisoft has with the Ghost Recon (AW) series, that Activision has with the Call of Duty series, that EA has with the Medal of Honor series, etc. All these IPs create a lot of profit and they are all "Hollywood" and not what I could call a hardcore tactical shooter. ;)

Maybe I'll be wrong (actually I hope so) but thats why I personally think it will be more softcore. :)

agentka, you may have a point regarding a multi platform release.

Everyone always says, that they keep the dev teams or platforms separate but when a game ships we see the same thing over and over again.

Even valve dropping TS2 32 player servers from the game browser because of the console side of the business.

scans, grab them while they are up.

zipped pdf files here (http://www.fpsadmin.com/fp2.zip) 2.16M sorry for the quality, had to do these quick (don't mind the dithering on the images)

Thanks for the scans! Sounds interesting and it seems they do want to keep or build upon key aspects of OFP.

So? Original Operation Flashpoint was on Xbox too. One of the best selling point of the original game was realism, and if they made this one into a COD/MOH style crap, personally I would be very upset and so would be a lot of the fans of the series.

I know it was, but I never played that version but they surely must have done changes to the gameplay otherwise I can't imagine that it was fun on that platform. I agree I'd be upset too, I know people shouldn't judge before a demo/retail and the preview was promising indeed but we'll have to wait and see and I only told you why I'm not getting my hopes too high but at the same time still hope for the best. :)

Operation Flashpoint 2 is being made by codemasters.[OFP Publisher]
While Armed Assault 2 is being made by Bohemia Interactive.[OFP Makers]
