radeon 8500 problems

My cousin can't run many games on his radeon 8500, like postal2, medal of honor, mafia and command and conquer: generals. does anyone know if this is a hardware problem or driver problem?

He has tried updating the radeon bios and testing different drivers for the video card and nothing seems to work.

I used to have nearly that exact same system, I ran mafia and c&c generals using the 3.1 cat's.

Does it pop up with any errors when you try and start them up?

it doesn't give an error when the games are launched. after a mission starts within few seconds the game crashes. it freezes with all these lines.

I think that it might be a hardware problem since i've tried updating the radeon bios and trying different drivers.
