View Full Version : Crysis Single Player Demo Feedback Thread
My screens I posted in this thread with fraps are me gaming at 1680X1050 so dont tell me its not playable at anything higher than 1020*768.
dont tell you?
no i was telling everyone :)
but that was in DX9 that you where running?
or DX10 with shaders on high?
I'm running it with an 8800 Ultra also and am getting an average of 28fps @ 1920x1200 resolution in Vista with all settings on very high except for Motion Blur which is off.
no way man :)
prove it!
is that in vista 64 or vista 32?
I thought that is one of the best screenshots I've ever taken in the Crysis Demo.
its easy to take screenshots when the gameplay is showing a few screenshots every second ;)

My point really was that it is absolutely amazing that the game engine was able to give me an image like that which looks so thoroughly pre-rendered regardless of the FPS being crappy ;)

I'm running benchmarks at 1680X1050 with all graphics set to very high with a few of the settings tweaked up to ultra high settings, no AA and no motion blur and benchmark a solid 30 fps. And at 30 fps, this game is extremely playable and smooth and never slows down in the firefights.
It's not until you start cranking up all the little detail effects like how far the engine will draw plant wind effects and per pixel rendering on the waves and stuff like that when you'd see a noticable performance hit.
Two ultras would be able to run this game at full ultra high settings like a champ. (although I still doubt it'd be able to do any anti aliasing with said ultra details).
The day a video card comes along and can run crysis at over 1280X1024 with full AA @ very high graphics settings is the day the 8800 ultra is obsolete.

What folder do you add these tweaks please?
x:\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo
Just create a text file with the name autoexec.cfg

Oh I didn't realize those were the same. I already have his config on "pending for tryout", I'll just do it now :)
Tim']Has anyone found out where the blood option in the configuration file is?
When you find the answer to this please tell me :o

EdgeAA makes things kinda fat looking.
Edit: Look at the wooden plank the fish are hanging from for easiest detail change detection.

Nice comparsion Destroy. would've been nice if you included the framerate hit though.

19x10, DX9, all High....
Less than 1fps hit for either EdgeAA (25.6-->24.8)
11fps hit for 16xFSAA (25.6--->14.8)

Is Edge AA part of the ini tweaks?
DX10 seems to bring a yellow taint to the image whereas DX9 looks bright and vivid. I'm going to play it DX9+effect tweaks in the full game.
I haven't yet seen sun rays as pronounced as the ones in this earlier vid: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/19965.html

Have no clue about the posted ini thingie.
All I can tell you for sure is that DX9 High NoFSAA has r_useedgeAA=1 under normal conditions. And that turning On FSAA automatically turns r_useedgeAA=0.
This post below brought me to this attention:

Hmm my immediate guess would be that they went away from that because that Crysis footage is really old. I guess they thought that they should be careful not to exaggerate the effect too much just like they exaggerated the HDR effect in the Far Cry patch IMO, the HDR in HL2:Lost Coast & Episode 2 seems much more natural and balanced. Though Crysis of course is superior to anything out there at the moment :D

Sounds good because that Edge nr. 2 is really nice, clearly this best to my eye, I even prefer it over the 16xFSAA. What is your own opinion, but saw it in full res, uncompressed and in-motion? :)

FSAA is easily the best graphically and definitely what I like best but for the almost 0 fps hit, EdgeAA is a halfway cheap substitute.

Hey Destroy, i made a little thread about AA and its differences where i also used some of your examples..
Have a look: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1432990#post1432990
This big question/thing to decide is; Would you prefer lower settings to get AA or skip AA and go with higher settings? Afaik those with 8800gtx just cant do Very high settings and get stable AA throughout the level, For example... In the beginning of the level i have alot of higher frames per seconds... But after the part where the sun raises my frames drop to 17 - 25 and even lower in some places, with All settings on Very high exept Particels, Shadows and Effects witch i have on High, in 1024x768 and no AA. This with an amd dual core @ 2.8mhz and 2gb ram. I wonder how the Ultra is making it, and i also wonder how for example 2x8800gtx or Ultra in SLI will handle it on Very high with added AA...
