i Was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem, i just got a 7800gs agp to replace my old 5900xt.
and thought i do a few bench mark test to compare the 2 first i tested half life 2 at 1024x768 max settings and only got 28fps which seemed quite low but didnt have a score to compare with (only tried as it was already installed)
so i ran 3dmark 03 and 06 and got quite a boost in scores so was happy i was getting a boost, then i installed doom3 and tried that at 1024x768 and got about 30fps which is what i used to get with my old card :( ,but then i tried upping to 1600x1200 and got 29fps point something or other which on my old card would be like a slide show so now im confused any ideas????

maybe i should have mentioned im running vista

I used to have that card before I got my 8800 and I tried vista on it and honestly, that card has horrible performance on vista. If you can try switching to XP I would. Good luck with it though.

well i've tried ut3 demo which on my old card ran really choppy on lowest res and setting it was unplayable but with this card run quite well @ 1024x768 high settings

and also tried half life 2 with these setting
Resolution: 16001200
Demo: HardwareOC - Highway
Detail: Maximum quality
High Dynamic Range: Full (if available)
Heapsize: 64 MB - default
Antialising mode: 8
Filtering mode: Anisotropic 16
Fast Z: Disabled
Score = 30 FPS
Score = 31 FPS
Average score = 30 FPS and get 30fps the same as at 1024x768 with no hdr,anistopic or antialising this seems really weird if anyone has any idea of why it is doing this it would be appreciated

Try Running Driver Cleaner Pro:

Do a full clean and remove your old drivers and then download the latest drivers from Nvidia. I hope this helps!
Also, make sure Vertical Synchronization is off in your drivers.

thanks but tried both even reinstalled vista then used driver cleaner then installed 163.69 then tried 169.01

I don't know why you're getting FPS that low. I have a 7800GS in my other computer and it ran better than that in Vista. Although I did downgrade the machine to gain some speed in Supreme Commander. It only has 1gig of ram and with SupCom you need all the help you can get.

If changing the res isn't making a difference in FPS maybe you're limited by something else. What kind of CPU do you have, and how much RAM?

i have 1.5gb of ram and a athlonxp 3000

my 7800 gs no where near matches the performance in Vista that it gets in XP. I've just given up gaming in Vista for now unless its a relatively easy to run game like Madden 08.

well ive been messing around this after noon and tried xp and got 52fps in hl2 and 53fps in doom3 much better also tired a 1600x1200 inhl2 and got 52fps again so it looks like my processor is holding me back, reinstalled vista and got 39fps in half life which is an improvment but then installed realtek drivers to get 5.1 sound on my nforce 2 and dropped to 31 fps does anyone know better drivers for nforce2 to get 5.1 in vista?
or soundblaster live drivers that have 5.1 sound
