I've been eying this set for a while now and Amazon keeps lowering the price. It's currently going for $1900 shipped on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HLT6187S-Slim-Engine-1080p/dp/B000N53TDM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7643431-2736009?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1193380434&sr=8-1) which is just insane. I saw on BestBuy.com today that it was on sale for $2287 + 0% financing for 14 months and thought, hey...why not? Spend a few hundo extra but get 0% interest and have the TV now...especially after reading some of the horror stories about the White Glove delivery service from 'zon.

So I went into one of the BBs that had it in stock and was looking. The home theater manager came by and asked if I had any questions. The set was retailing for $2599 so I asked if they matched online prices and he said they definitely did for BB.com. I asked if they matched other sites like Amazon and he said not usually but asked how much BB.com had it vs. Amazon. I told him and he brought me over to the computer to look at some numbers.

After a minute or two he turned around and said, "I'll give it to you for $1999.99 if you buy it right now."

****in' a. How could I say no to that price + 0% financing for 14 months? I'm picking it up tomorrow around 1:30pm. I'm leaving work early for a "doctor's appointment" and will be out the rest of the afternoon. :D

I'm still in shock he matched Amazon's price (mostly). Like, I really didn't think he would at all. I'm so excited!

And, to make things better, both my bosses and 90% of my team is out today. I'm leaving at 1:30 at the very latest. I can't wait to get this thing setup and just waste away in front of it. :D

360 + HD DVD + 61" 1080p = never leaving apartment again :D :D

Hey Kyle... how far away are you going to be sitting from this 61" beast?

About 8 feet. Give or take a foot.

I just finished getting it setup and plugging my components back into it. I'm setting up the antenna and cable channels (God bless this TV for having two coaxial inputs and a mode for each so I can have my OTA HD signals and my basic cable signals without having to switch anymore).

It's absolutely amazing.

I sit about 6' away from my 46" Samsung LCDTV and sometimes I feel it's to big! Maybe I just have to get used to it (only had it for a few weeks). In any case, guys.... PARTY AT KYLES HOUSE!!! WOOHOO! :D ;)

okay...this TV is ****ing incredible. I'm watching the NIN Beside You In Time HD DVD and I've taken a TON of pics...I'm just too drunk to post them tonight. Tomorrow I'll show.

God...this was the best $2000 I've ever spent. :D

Finally...pics. :D Apart from the first two, they're all images from the NIN Beside You In Time HD DVD and the upconverted And All That Could Have Been SD DVD.

I'm quite pleased with the detail and color this TV offers. I just need to use my DVE HD DVD to better calibrate it and I think I'll be quite set. :)

My 5.1 setup is, as you can see, all facing me in sort of a "wall of sound" configuration because my living room is so huge that wall mounting the back speakers isn't feasible and the floor layout wouldn't permit them to be evenly placed with stands. :( I'll have to figure something or or maybe go to just a stereo configuration.

And for comparison, here's the same wall with my 32" Westinghouse LCD

Very very nice. Wish I could afford one. Right now I don't have a TV.

I have been reading about a "prism effect" manfacturing-related problem with this model, an artifact seen in dark areas on high contrast scenes with this set - apparently not all sets are affected (though a seemingly large percentage are based on AVSFORUM posts), but if your set is affected it requires an expensive light engine swap-out repair (if not under warranty). Did you have this issue? It is apparently easiest seen in the 300 senate scene and looks like a prism/triangle of bluish/purple color.

I only know because I was/am interested in this set as well. One thing I'd like to know - try running it some 1080p/24 material and I'd like to know if the judder seen in 1080p60 is gone, as this is a 120hz set.

I don't have anything that can output 1080p24 unless the 360 does. I've got my 360 and an A2 for HD content.

And yes, I think my set has the prism effect. I noticed a purplish/bluish spot in the middle of the screen while watching The Scorpion King last night.

But since I just bought it, I should be okay with the replacement, right? It shouldn't cost anything? I'll look for more info about it over at AVS I guess...otherwise, if it is going to be expensive, or if they won't come out and do it in person, I can just deal with it. It was a small annoyance and I could only really see it in a few really dark scenes.

Would the Performance Plan or whatever they call it at Best Buy also cover this? And if so, how much does the light engine replacement cost? Because if it's more than $350, I'll just go back and buy the Performance Plan since that's how much it was going to cost.

It look so tiny!

I'm moving later this year, I don't think my little 42"er will cut it in the new place, might have to checkout these new DLPs. :)

Nice set. It's a bit small for my taste though. :p

Damn, that makes my 42" look pathetic.

LOL You had to put in the darkest, crappiest HD-DVD in to take screen pictures, didn't you? That concert is so damn dark it's a waste of HD-DVD PQ. ;)

It makes the bright parts seem that much brighter and the colors that much richer... ;)

You need to use hdmi or component to get 1080p, and even then, some tv's do not accept 1080p through component.
