Hello,
I have just installed SuSE 8.2 on my system and I can't get 3D acceleration to work. I install the NVIDIA GLX drivers (in NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4349.run), then I switch to runlevel 5, and as soon xdm service is called the screen switch to "blank". It just the screen, the system keep running, but I'm forced to restart the machine, remove the driver (starting in rescue mode) and then I restart the machine and the X-server works again.
My system has the following pieces:
Video card: ASUS V9180 Magic/T 64MB-DDR GeForce4 MX440-8x
Motherboard: ASUS A7V8X SoA VIA Apollo KT400 USB2
Processor: AMD Athlon 2000+
OS: SuSE 8.2 plain vanilla.
Unfortunately I don't have the file /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 so I don't know how to fetch my video card BIOS revision. But the KDE hardware information applet tells me that the revision of the video card is 162 and that it has GLX extensions...
You find attached my XF86Config file (renamed as XF86Config.txt).
I hope someone has the right answers ;)
Cheers
Nicola
