View Full Version : CRYSIS DEMO Vista 64 DX9 Mode with tweaked Ini is the way to go!
Got any proof of that? First I heard of it.
This was said in a interview.
Things they said they will make Crysis take advantage of
64bit
Dual Core
SLI
If i also remember correctly they said that using 64bit over 32bit can also gain some performance...i am assuming they mean a bit more quality for the same performance..as which is pointed out in the screenshots with the details on mountains..which is always a good thing.
For speed, yes, but not graphically. All I can find is mention of the speed increase...
"Crysis will also take advantage of 64-bit CPUs. Crytek has had experience working with new technology, since it released a patch for Far Cry last year to take advantage of the new 64-bit processors from AMD and Intel. However, while 64-bit usually doesn't bring any measurable performance increase in games (most games just take advantage of 64-bit's larger memory space), it appears that it will provide better performance in Crysis. According to Yerli, the 64-bit version "will bring a performance difference of up to 10 to 15 percent on each thread" compared to the 32-bit version."

Well since I have access to both 32 and 64 bit I can clearly see that 64 bit displays sharper and more detailed textures background mountains. My pics show this too if you just open your eyes and look at it.
64bit offered these same types of enhancements along with speed increases in Farcry.

Legend, the thing is that with Directx10 you get a different color palette than using Directx9 that looks much more realistic. It's due to the r_colograding setting in postprocessing effects but only works in DX10 in very high
DX9 high shaders/very high postprocessing:

Good info but im not trying to imply that the ini tweaks make everything available thats in DX10 because I know a few things are not. Such as the r_colorgrading.
I only posted the pics to show people how good they could make DX9 look if they didnt have a way to run it in DX10.

Yep, agreed... but I think it's also important to highlight what DX10 brings that we cannot get in DX9

Yeah I agree with that too but for right now the differences are so tiney that most people will never even notice the difference.

Yes, there's alot of truth in that... and tweaking the ini to add DX10 features to a DX9 situation is a good solution to get most of the nice effects that the devs tried to make "exclusive" to DX10

Well unless things change with the final build I will be running Vista 64+DX9 path with ini hacks.
Reason is that it runs a bit faster and doesnt have the mouse lag that currently plagues the DX10 path of the demo and it looks darn impressive..;)
I just tested it again and I've noticed that DX9 + ini tweaks runs just the same as DX10 very high except post processing and shaders on high. Considering the minor benefits you get from running the DX10 path, I'd so much just pick it were it not for the mouselag. My point is that at least on my system there is not even a performance benefit to the tweaked DX9 mode, which leaves me even angrier on the damn mouselag :(

That's a good comparison. IMO The DX9 shot looks like a very pretty videogame while the DX10 one just stepped up the realism a notch, looks much more real; im simple words true nextgen. Unfortunately you can safely say that the framerate was knocked down a notch as well. That 9800GTX can't come soon enough...

Only thing I found odd is that my comparison pics of DX10 vs DX9 With ini tweaks look nothing like that at all. The colors in DX9 were just as good as DX10 in my shots.
See for yourself.
DX9 with Ini Tweaks VS DX10. Enjoy!!!

In the DX9 shots the background Mountain is more detailed because I was using Vista 64 for DX9. Just wanted to point that out.
And for all the nay sayers that say you cant run the Demo under DX10 and get playable FPS I beg to differ! Just look at how close DX10 runs to DX9 for ME!
Legend it may be because you've not disabled/moved/deleted the tweak properly when changing to DX10 mode, because they should clearly not be similar in colors/lightning. I don't think Post Processing and Shaders are very high on those shots.
Anyway I've just taken a few DX9/DX10 shots myself but I wanna make them into a GIF for easy comparison. Does anyone know the best way to do this in highres?

No no I made sure that I did that so I know thats not an issue. And I never claimed to be running Shaders and Post processing at very high settings. Those two settings at very high kills performance and thats why I had them at high. I dont know why you guys cannot grasp this.

Well because those two particular settings are the exciding part of DX10 mode, but I can see what you're getting at.
Anyway I dropped the gif thing and made something much more extensive, you'll all see in a min :D
