Well you name it and I have tried it, 64bit DX10 32Bit DX10 64bit DX9 and 32bit DX9! LOL!

I think I am probably one of the few people here that is able to run DX10 well at 1680X1050 with Shaders set to high and all other options at high or very high while keeping things at 30+fps.

However there is nasty mouse lag that hampers DX10 mode compared to DX9 mode which has Zero mouse lag and feels much better over all when playing.

After doing some of the ini tweaks I found on the net which gives you the same very high options that were supposedly only available in DX10 I can honestly say that the best combo I have found is to run the demo under Vista 64 using the dx9 command+ini tweaks. 64 bit also runs a tad better than 32bit while adding a bit more detail to the distant mountains.

The FPS is also a little higher over all than compared to DX10 plus you get all the good eye candy without the annoying mouse lag ;)

Here are some shots using the ini tweaks in DX9 mode with Vista 64-

Settings are-
1680X1050 Application controlled AA and AF.
Textures-Very high using ini tweak
Water-Very high using ini tweak.
Sun shafts are turned on using ini tweaks and all other options are set to high.

IMO there is just something about the way the lighting is. In dx9, it just appears trees get darker in the center reguardless of where the light hits it, while in dx10, light shadowing is more accurate. Also, although Im only going by the dx9/10 comparison shots from not to long ago but before the demo came out, it appears dx10 allows for more trees (farther LOD line for the trees) to be rendered. That would most likely be a setting in the high/very high configurations though.

Oh yeah im not denying that the lighting and shadows are not more accurate under DX10 because I know that they are;)

My only point of posting these pics was to show people that it is indeed possible to run some of these very high effects under DX9 that were only supposed to be found in DX10. Such as the sun shafts and higher level of rippling water.

Either way I would rather play it in DX9 as the frames are a bit better and with the ini tweaks it looks spectacular and most important of all NO MOUSE LAG.

For you people that have not played it under DX9 mode try it out and then you will see what I mean by mouse lag in DX10.

I wanna see the FPS on Action Shots, show a screen of a gun fight with those settings, i'm still not convinced that it constantly stays above that fps in a close range battle with multiple npcs.

Post some with depth of field in play if you don't mind, ie not shooting a guy with a close mountain side or close water as your only backdrop.

I played the demo through in DX-10 mode all high except textures, shaders and water on very high. I didn't tweak as much as you did, and still found the game perfectly playable @ 1680x.

Well I just snapped some action pics a minute a go and now they are uploading so I hope its what you want;)

Guys you can trust me, I dont make up BS and I have played through this demo about 10 times now using the above settings and not one single time during any firefight in any one part of the demo did my FPS drop under 30.

Wow, shaders on very high is a FPS killer but im glad you still found it playable. Try shaders on high for a nice FPS boost while sacraficing minimal image quality.

Legend,

Any AA/AF being use in the nvidia control panel? Also, is the control panel set to "high quality"? I got the same specs as you. As soon as my RMA mobo arrives, I can't wait to jump in :)

Looks good, but I still prefer to play it in DX10 as I feel the overall scene is just more realistic looking. I can't quite put my finger on it, but DX9 just looks "flat" by comparison. I don't know if it's the lighting or what, but it just doesn't look the same to me. The scene doesn't look as alive. The distant mountains also look about the same to me as when 32-bit DX10 loads them in properly, but it might help to see it in motion.

Also, I don't notice this mouse lag that people keep talking about in DX10. Doesn't get bad for me until the frames drop below 30. Other than that, it plays fine.

I have some comparison pics of DX10 and DX9 comming up shortly so people can look at them and decide what they like. Overall as you said DX10 looks better as a whole picture.

I will tell you first hand bro that the distant mountian detail is greater in 64bit than 32bit even when the textures properly load, screen shots just doesnt really do it justice.

Yeah, but every FPS I've ever played had some mouse lag when enabling v-sync. I'm playing through Jericho right now, and it has it. Once you adjust to it it's not a big deal, IMO.

The "lag" people are feeling might be caused by the DX10 motion-blur. You can turn it down via the post-processing option, but it's a catch-22 because motion-blur helps smooth out framerates--something that Crysis definitely needs since it's already bordering on the edge in performance.

AA and AF are set on application control. Forcing either one causes bugs at the moment.

No its not that, i have tried it with vsync disabled in both and it still lags in DX10 compared to DX9.

But like I said you have to play it in DX9 to see the difference, its tons more responsive even when the fps are the same.

On the contrary I felt the mouselag regardless of the framerate and found it intolerable. It's sad because really the only thing that's keeping me from playing the DX10 path and not even thinking about the DX9 and tweaking is the really annoying mouselag. So right now I have both a DX9 and DX10 shortcut on my desktop, depending on my mood. As Legend, I think you'd definently notice if you switched back and forth between DX9 and DX10 mode a few times.

I have vSync in other games (TF2 among others) and it's difinently not a vSync issue, it's a DX10 issue :(
I think I heard someone in the Crysis Demo thread a while ago say that it's an issue with Nvidia's drivers, not an inescapable sideeffect of the DX10 render. I really, really, really, REALLY hope it's true :|

And for all the nay sayers that say you cant run the Demo under DX10 and get playable FPS I beg to differ! Just look at how close DX10 runs to DX9 for ME!

Can you post the settings at which these screens were taken? I just not sure what you're trying to prove here. Those DX10 screens are obviously not 'very high' on everything.
