The new hard drive arrived this morning, and its not dead!! So now its time to install and configure the router. Wish me luck:eek:
Edit: Right I have set up the router, its working fine for my old machine since im on now posting this:D
I followed the instructions for configuring the pc: Local area connections properties > TCP/IP properties > Obtain IP address automatically > Reboot
After that I am supposed to connect to http://192.168.1.1 to configure the router. The only problem being is that I am not getting that far, I cant get the other rig to detect anything:( anyone help?:D
never mind its up and running now:cool:

Hehe is your router by any chance LinkSys , i use this Http://192.168.1.1 also :) it have so many options i am totaly lost :eek:
Word...
Run CMD:
1. ping 192.168.1.1
-if you get a response I don't see any problem getting into the router. Unless it blocks LAN->router connections which would be a very dumb thing to do with default settings
-if you don't then it might be a different IP addy for it.
2. ipconfig /all
-make sure your LAN / DHCP / DNS is obtained automatically
If the router supports Telnet sessions, try that:
Run CMD:
1. open 192.168.1.1 23
-enter your password
2. configure your router through telnet

Well...were you able to connect to the router?
Setting up sharing isn't hard, it's done through Windows :)

I told you that first hard drive was broken and would you listen? Noooooo :p
Right click My Network Places->properties
Right click Local Area Connection->properties
Make sure you see "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed as well as "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
That's all :o
Now click on any folder/drive you want to share:
Right click on folder->properties->Sharing tab->enable sharing for this folder (or whatever it says there).
Note that I'm not using Simple File Sharing as it gives permission to everyone to access the resources.
If you don't want Simple File Sharing, go to your folder options->view->uncheck Simple FIle Sharing (on the bottom)
