Damn, I might have to be a little late or work tommorrow. I wonder how many people are going to see this by tommorrow...
I'd buy an HD-DVD player just to play the 2 or 3 movies I can't get on BR. That's definitely a sweet deal.

2 or 3? Are you aware there are more HD DVD titles than BD?

Yea, but of the 100's of titles they have, there are only going to be like 2 or 3 that I would actually get that I couldn't get from blu-ray.

There is a very very small selection of movies that are out on both formats, most of them are exclusive to one side or the other. Then again, maybe you simply have extremely refined tastes in movies.

I was all hyped to get one until I read it doesn't do 1080p. Im going to wait until one of the other players that do 1080p comes out at a low price.

lol @ eproductwars. Amazon sales tracking and inventory searches are not an accurate way to get a count. Addtionally, if you were following current events you'd know that all the Paramount releases are still available on BD via Amazon. They don't count as they are *no longer produced*. When they're gone they're gone.

1080i into 1080p TV = 1080p
1080p into 1080p TV = 1080p
No difference. You love eating buzzwords don't you? I wish knuckleheads who think like you lived closer to me. I love switching my XA2 output to 1080i and back to 1080p. No one has ever been able to tell one from the other because they are identical. Quit lapping up Sony's FullHD bull****.

Well actually I just don't buy that many movies. I've had a BR player ala the PS3 for a year but I only have like 6 movies for it, so 2 or 3 is quite a few movies to me.

You mean, Amazon has slightly more BD than HD-DVD that they list.

If your TV supports 3:2 reverse telcline, then it makes no difference. The player would output half the pixels at twice the rate, and your tv would reconstruct twice the pixels at half the rate.

Yeah inverse telecine is going to be done by either the player or your TV, and it will look the same regardless of which one does it. In this case the player doesn't do it, so your TV needs to do it. 3:2 pulldown compensation is a trivial feature to add to a TV, so even the cheaper ones should do it.
1080i into 1080p TV = 1080p
1080p into 1080p TV = 1080p
If neither your TV nor your player will deinterlace, and you have a 1080p fixed pixel display, then you are looking at 1920x540 rather than 1920x1080.

List *1* 1080p TV that doesn't deinterlace.

if I can get my hungover ass up in time, I'm going to Wal-Mart in the morning to get a few of thsoe discs and maybe even a second A2.
Even though it's POS that's only 1080i and, like, that's barely better than 480i. I mean, seriously.

I wasn't arguing against your statement, simply qualifying the quote.
I like the A2, now I can finally watch a standard DVD with out it freezing half way through, god that pissed me off.

You never even had a decent regular dvd player?
Was anyone able to get one of these at the $98 price point?
