Does TV fullscreen overlay work in GeForce 8 cards?

Is it true that GeForce 8 series cards can't do fullscreen video on TVs? http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/163.71/163.71_WinXP_ForceWare_Release_Notes.pdf (page 39 -- a bit technical to me), http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?act=ST&f=33&t=29212 , and https://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2011&p_created=1169076830 say fullscreen TV output won't work.

On my current GeForce 7950GT KO video card, I watch a lot of videos fullscreen on my 20" CRT TV. If this is true, then is there a hack/workaround? I'd like to upgrade to an 8800 card, but this is a blocker for me. I do more videos than gaming. :(

I'm wondering about HDMI/DVI compatibility with my HDTV Plasma (I'm ordering a 8800GT as soon as the brand/model I want is in stock at newegg). My pc is my central entertainment hub, and it's connected to my 42" widescreen plasma, and it's imperative that HDTV support is atleast the same and trouble free as my current 6800Ultra OC. I'm using real old quadro drivers (81.67) and my plasma works perfect with 1:1 pixel mapping through the DVI to HDMI adapter cable.
