I received the 8800GT 2 days ago but until today i couldn't build the entire PC (A kit of my Ballisitix dimms just died :thumbdwn: )....

So, i run a few 3dmark06, a few Call of Juarez DX10 benchmarks and everything worked perfect. Also i passed the OCCT 30min test and now the Orthos is working on after 1 hour and a half.

But anytime i tried Crysis it always locks up, and i am started felling desperate with this. I tried also without OCing (the CPU not the GPU, thats on defaut) and it happens the same.

I am under Vista64, its updated (today) and using 169.02 WHQL drivers from nvidia. I have tried setting the MUltiGPU/SLI to Single mode as LegionHardware suggests in his review. But its still locking up.

Any idea? :( (besides installing windows XP :p )

Thanks for your time!

Try the 169.04 :D

Try running either DX 9 mode (that made it work for me on my 8800GTS in Vista64) or try the 32bit EXE in DX10 mode (which also worked for me with 8800GTS in Vista64).

also try increasing the fan speed in rivatuner , it sounds maybe like its overheating cause crysis is probably the most demanding game right now to the gpu.

Yeah i would try the 32bit exe within the program folder as with the older drivers it crashes if you don't have it set to single monitor mode and vsync off. I know you said you placed it is in single monitor mode but you never said about the vsync.

Try the 169.04 :D

+1. I had the same problem as you do so all I had to do was downclock my card a little just so it wouldn't freeze under the Crysis demo!

So you downclocked your card to get it to freeze in the Crysis Demo?

LOL,,,kidding. I know what you meant.;)

man you crack me up, haha. I was laughing forever.

by the way, try the latest beta drivers from nvidia, they are better comaptibility for crysis.

Ok...

Memtest86, 2 passes without a single error
Orthos2004 for 5 hours, no error.

I also tried 169.04, also without OCIng the CPU... And i tried speeding up the fan to 100% and the same result :(

I think i've tried everything... now i am installing windows XP... lets see!

Yep. I have had a few hard locks as well, and notice the temps are really high on my GX2. It seems most of the latest games with the newer drivers really heat up the GPU..i am not even sure why..but i know that it is related with the drivers.

Been trying to get my GPU to run its fan @ 100% but with no luck since Rivatuner wont work with it.

Might want to try one of the 15x drivers or something like that, and use a modded inf/profiles from the latest ones to test it out because i even cleaned up my GX2 the other day and the temps are still very high..and this is with the side case open and A/C on -.-..and the temps peak nearly 90C..

also set v-sync to off (or on) in the nvidia control panel for the crysis exe

with 90-100C temps on these things...it defeantly wouldn't surprise if Crysis would just freeze it..cause Crysis pushes even my temps up alot -.-.

often the first *several* passes in memtest86 will be clear, only to find errors after a few hours. always run memtest at least overnight, and possibly for 24 hours to get conclusive results.

Test the GPU imo.

Or run the that rhtdl or something called that program and watch the temps through rivatuner...let it run for about 5-10 mins and see how the temps are going.

Ok, i was wrong, i still suffer hard locks even in XP. I testes Crysis with de GPU fan at 100% and it could finished it, but with the fan at stock speed (auto) it still hard lock...

I donīt know if its a temperatura problem or just Crysis and the card.

I left memtest86 running for 5 hours.. no errors..

So? return the card?

I've had 3 or 4 hard locks in Crysis too, but after several hours of playing. So I just restart the pc and play again. No other game crashed on my pc before with my 8800gts and now with my new 8800gt. In vista6 make sure to manage your fan speeds with rivatuner because mine stayed at 29% all the time, I've never heard the slightest noise :( My core temp reached as high as 86C. Now its ok but this 8800gt has really bad cooling solution and is pestering me couse otherwise my comp is entirely silent.

Agreed. The stock cooler is just not up to the job. I have to run mine at high fan settings because if it goes over 80*C I get articacts. Gonna swap the coolers when OCuk get some ramsinks in stock.

Have you tried the new beta 169.12 drivers and see what that does ,plus if you are overclocking your card ,you might try running it at stock, and if you are running it at stock you might try to down clock it and run it and see if that helps .But I have had trouble running Crysis with vista ,I get lock ups sometimes ,I found the best way to run it in Vista is to run it in DX9 mode and add a tweak file to it so it looks just as good as DX10 mode without the performance hit.

new beta 169.12 driver
Recommended driver for Crysis (no Crysis changes from Release 169.09).

The 169.12 seem to work good for me with my SLI 8800GTS and Crysis ,plus Need for speed ProStreets works great with the new drivers ,it runs smooth at around 120FPS at 1920x1200 with 4x FSAA and 16x aniso.I don't get no pauses or hitching like i did with other NFS games.

i never suffering any lock up in crysis(high setting with 8xaa/anisotropy) even after playing several hours and i am using 8800gtx(o/c to 660/2100)!
i think it should not the driver problem and may be the hardware or overclocking side unstable!
try to increase the ventilation inside the case to see any improvement!
