I was wondering when the "45nm"intel processor is coming out, I heard ends of 2007 but haven't heard anything of it.

Yes the Extreme Edition is $999 and it is on 45nm and apparently people got it up to 4.2Ghz on air too. The ones in February will be 45nm as well.

I bet alot more people are going to go with the EE this time, unlocked multi is the only way to reach the true oc'ing potential of these new chips. Unfortunately, I've never been able to put $999 in my upgrade budget for a processor alone :(

Well hopefully the extreme edition goes down in price quick by christmass. I'll be upgrading to a 45nm sooner or later. Better than what i got by alot for sure. Just need a good mobo and memory by then

Intel rarely reduces the price of their Extreme Editions, just look at the QX6700 on newegg, still $949. You will pay a premium for the unlocked multiplier no matter what.

Do they cost more to develop/produce, or is it just that they can sell them for more $$$?

$$$$. It is alot of power afterall. In the right hands it can go alot further..and thats why you pay alot.

Funny thing..with the AUS dollar actually strong now against the USA..it might actually...be kinda be in a resonable target range..but i rather get a medium end quad core and spend the rest on the GPU.

I am waiting for them to come out in Feb hopefully as well, i want to get a full upgrade..still waiting for the GF9 -.-..

I'll stick with my Q6600 till the better bang for the buck 45nm's come out early next year (assuming I even need one... I love what I got and is more than I need ATM) :)
