I know that mac OSX is based off of unix. Has Mac Os's always been based off unix?
Linux is based off of unix like OSX. Is this have something to do with why programmers and the elite like OSX cuz its using the same core as Linux?
Leo Laporte says Mac OSX is kinda like Linux FreeBSD.
I might get battered for this but using Linux would be kinda like using OSX wouldn't it? Its looks different but under the hood with command line its the same.
Linux and BSD are both derivitives of Linux but are a bit different from one another, as well. I had always read OS X was based on BSD instead of Unix or Linux.
Mac used to be based on... well... Macintosh software. I'm not sure why they changed to a BSD based system, but something tells me its because OS 9 sucked so bad. Microsoft was just finally starting to get their act together, so the move was well timed, IMO.
(EG comes in with a joke about MS having its act together. Of course I mean the 9x to NT transition for the home user.)

I think Apple knew the unix and BSD was for braniacs and developers in the media undustry so they put together OSX cuz it really put Apple on the map agian.
I states Mac is now for the elite and the more intelligent. Plus Apple new more and more true computer know it alls were migrating to Linux cuz windows sucked at the time.

I was vacant from the mac scene during OS9, if it was as badly conceived as OS8, I didn't miss much. OSX is very nice though.
OSX is based off of BSD Unix and Nextstep, his NeXT OS for his company NeXT after he left Apple.
OS 9 and earlier versions were not Unix based and were Apple's proprietary stuff.
