I have had Vist Ultimate 32bit sitting on my desk since Janurary ,well I thought by now they should have it up to par or close to it .It looks pretty ,but even my mouse is slugish and games, well I thought they would be slower ,but just a little ,i fired up the Cysis demo and it was just a jerk show ,On Xp I can play at 1920x1200 and it runs smooth even when adding the updated files that make it look better .But with vista and even thing set the same just on high ,I get 15 to19 fps most of the time sometimes I will see 30fps ,and in fire fights it really a slide show .I like how it looks but I hate how it plays my games,I guess no DX10 for me for a while unless I can get something that can actually run the games I want.

Well I never had problem, it went very smooth with my old Microsft Wheel mouse with laser sensor.

I guess I am the only person in the world running Vista 64 with Zero complaints because every single one of my older games to newer games now play just as well and some even better on Vista 64 vs XP.
I started out dual booting and as of recent dumped XP and will never go back as there is no reason too.
As for crysis I played the demo in both XP and Vista with the DX9 Executable and performance was only roughly 1-2fps different.
All I can say is that if you are running Vista make sure you have downloaded the Vista HOTFIXES off of Nvidias website because they improve performance dramatically and also make sure to use the latest beta.

See, that's the trick there. Crysis runs fine in Vista as long as you use the DX9 path. The DX10 path is currently very buggy for some reason. In DX9 I don't have any problems besides the 1fps difference from XP.

By the time they get dx10 running properly. Everyone will have finished Crysis.

Same situation here. I haven't had a single problem/complaint with vista x64. Everything that i have works flawlessly. If you had asked me a couple months ago i would have said yah there are problems, but microsoft/other vendors have updated their products so everything works. drivers/programs not working isn't a valid excuse anymore.
As has already been said, I don't think Vista has a problem with DX9.
I think there are plenty of other reasons to run Vista, I particularly like the search the start menu feature, but for everyone with the games-only mindset I think the RAM limitation of 32bit is going to be the real driving factor to Vista. 64Bit XP was a joke, 64Bit Vista seems to be on par with 32Bit Vista.

just trying to feed the fire? come on, who the hell is going to believe you when your first complain is that even your mouse runs slow.
yes vista sucks so much that you need a 3.7ghz quad core with 6gb of ram just to use your mouse correctly.
an other note, how can you compared dx10 performance to dx9?

Same here, no complaints other than the first month or so but all the Hotfixes and new drivers cured all my problems. Heck I haven't even rebooted in 2 weeks, just hit the sleep button at night, or auto sleep after 2 hours during the day-move the mouse and it's instant-on back to my login.
I'm no MS lover or shill and I do hate the whole Vista/DX10/Games for Windows idea making all our current stuff semi-obsolete but hey, back in the day my old Tandy is obsolete and so on thru 8086/8088/386/486 etcetera, etcetera.
I've been using Vista for about 4 years now, and have never had a problem on the one machine I've used it on. It's rock hard and stable, and I think that anyone else who "claims" to be having issues with it just doesn't have any idea what they are doing. These people probably shouldn't even own a PC. Really, its just about perfect.

He said "jerk show". ROFL.
John, I think I remember reading that the mouse issue is due to a driver. I've never had the problem, but I think its either the default MS driver or the Logitech driver/software sweet. Try both drivers, and try disabling/enabling acceleration under each configuration. I wish I could find the link about that problem....
Vista is great for a lot of things, but as of today DX10 is not one of them. It will probably be a couple years before developers, ATI/Nvidia, and Microsoft work all the kinks out. I mean, its only really been a year or so since we really started seeing what DX9 can do.
Also, pretty please work on the punctuation, John. It goes "WORD, New Word"

and the same mouse issue caused mostly setpoint can happen in XP as well.

i dont play games, so i dont use dx10, so for me.. vista has been fine

Well actually my DX10 performance is only around 2-3fps off from DX9 in Vista 64. DX10 was very playable for me and I even posted screen shots comparing DX9 to DX10 under fraps.
So im not sure whats going on for some people and why there DX10 performance is so horrible because mine wasnt. I was getting 35-45fps in DX10 which is very playable for Crysis.

How do you use the DX9 path in Vista ,and forget about my comment about the mouse ,I did'nt mean everthing runs slow in vista ,I like it if I was planning on playing games .I am glad all of you have perfection with Vista ,I was just hopeing for more. What downloads do I need to help game performance ,I have updated everthing that windows update has to down load.

Make sure you are running the latest Beta driver from Nvidia (169.04) first and foremost as I have gotten really nice performance boost across the board with all my games.
Here are the hotfixes that you need to help with game performance-

Now that I have a pretty good rig going, Vista works a whole lot better. Games run pretty well (even Crysis in DX10) so everything is fine. To the OP, your specs look pretty good so you shouldn't have a problem with Vista.
How do you use the DX9 path in Vista
Just add -dx9 at the end of your shortcuts executible.

Yeah you have moved up in the PC world comming from what you did have. Nice job man. ;)

Thanks! Actually, we should all be thanking MikeC for letting me join the reviewing team here at NVNews. Without him, I would still be rocking some mid-level stuff. Thanks Mike!

when I run it in DX9 mode with the adding of -dx9 ,I get the same as XP in running Crsis back to my 40fps to 22fps in fire fights ,I can live with that .but running it in DX10 it is going to take a powerful card .

I actually only lose around 1-3fps when running DX10 vs DX9. It might be a Vista 64 advantage though.
